What was demolished—and where?
PTI reported that the Revenue Department carried out the drive in the Sopore area of Baramulla district, removing a shed allegedly built by Guru’s relatives on state land in a flood basin. Hindustan Times reported that sheds belonging to three people, including Tabassum Guru, Afzal Guru’s wife, were removed. The Tribune described a dairy-farm shed near Gulnar Park; Hindustan Times also placed the dairy farm close to the family home.
The reporting connects the structures to Guru’s family, but does not say the main home was demolished. None of the reviewed reports gives parcel identifiers, precise boundaries, or a reliable measurement of the area affected.
Why did authorities carry out the operation?
Officials described the action as an anti-encroachment drive on state or government flood land. Hindustan Times quoted the Baramulla administration as saying: “The land, which was allegedly under unauthorised occupation, is situated in a prime location and is estimated to be worth crores of rupees. The eviction was carried out as part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to safeguard government land and prevent its unauthorised use and occupation.” This is the administration’s account; the reviewed reporting does not independently establish the land’s title or valuation.

What do officials and the family say about notice?
Hindustan Times reported that officials said notices had been served. Family members disputed that account, and The Tribune reported a family member’s allegation that no prior notice was given. A family elder quoted by Hindustan Times also said procedure was not followed and described the land as ancestral. These are competing reported claims, not a court’s finding.
The reviewed reports do not include the notices, a demolition order, underlying revenue records, or a judicial decision. Those documents—or a court finding—would be needed to resolve the procedural and land-status questions.

What is established, and what remains unresolved?
- Reported: The demolition took place on October 6, 2026, in Baramulla district, and reporting identifies shed or dairy-farm structures associated with Guru’s family.
- Officials’ stated position: The structures occupied government or state flood land without authorisation.
- Family members’ position: They disputed the notice account and alleged that procedure was not followed.
- Not established in the reviewed reporting: Legal title, exact boundaries, the precise area affected, and whether the operation complied with required procedure.
PTI’s brief account notes that Afzal Guru was convicted in connection with the 2001 Parliament attack case and executed in February 2013. That background does not determine the land dispute.
