How much does ADT cost in 2026?
ADT’s official pricing pages show advertised starting prices rather than one universal price for every home. Self Setup monitoring currently starts at:

ADT’s product page also lists a basic Self Setup package at $269, although the monitoring requirement and package details should be checked against the offer and terms attached to your order.
Three-year monitoring cost
Monitoring alone adds up quickly:
- $29.99 × 36 months = $1,079.64
- $39.99 × 36 months = $1,439.64
- $49.99 × 36 months = $1,799.64
- $59.99 × 36 months = $2,159.64
Those figures exclude equipment, installation, taxes, permits, financing, optional warranty coverage, and add-on devices. A budget Self Setup example would be $269 for equipment plus 12 months of $24.99 monitoring, or $568.88 before tax, assuming no add-ons. A professionally installed system must be calculated from the actual equipment and installation quote; there is no defensible universal installation price.
ADT’s official ecommerce terms have listed professionally installed starting packages such as $29.99 per month for a BYO package and $44.99 per month for Total Safety. These prices apply to specific packages and terms, not every professionally installed system. A separate promotion shown in ADT’s terms required a 36-month plan starting at $59.99 per month and expired August 24, 2026, so it should not be treated as a current permanent offer.

What do the ADT monitoring plans include?
Secure
The Secure tier advertises 24/7 intrusion, fire, carbon-monoxide, water, and temperature monitoring, the ADT+ app, Alarm Messenger, and cellular alarm backup. It is the relevant starting point for buyers who want monitored alarms without necessarily paying for advanced camera features.
Smart
Smart adds smart-home automation and device control. That does not automatically mean advanced video monitoring. Confirm whether the cameras, live view, video verification, and storage you want are included in the selected configuration.
Complete
Complete adds video verification, 24/7 live camera view, and Intelligent Alert on qualifying equipment and services. ADT’s plan information indicates that video features depend on compatible cameras, internet access, Wi-Fi, a Google Account, and the Google Home app linked with ADT+.
ADT’s monitoring workflow is straightforward: an alarm signal is received, a monitoring agent assesses the event, and the agent may contact you, emergency contacts, or emergency services when appropriate. ADT describes its company-operated monitoring-center network, but that is the company’s own description—not an independently verified police-response-time study. Alarm-signal handling time is also different from the time police, fire, or medical responders take to arrive.

Contract, cancellation, and moving risks
Early cancellation
For professionally installed systems, ADT’s residential terms may allow the company to charge 75% of the remaining monthly service charges during the initial contract period. For example, if a $59.99 plan is canceled after 12 months of a 36-month term, 24 months remain. Seventy-five percent of that remaining monitoring balance is approximately $1,079.82, before other contractual charges.

This is why a discounted camera or reduced installation price should not be evaluated separately from the agreement. The economic commitment may be the full monitoring term.
Moving
Do not assume the system automatically transfers to a new address. Moving options can depend on whether the equipment is reusable, whether the new property is serviceable, whether the original term is still active, whether new installation is required, and whether the equipment is owned, financed, or subject to different compatibility rules.
Before signing, request the moving policy in writing. Ask whether the contract continues, whether a new installation or agreement is required, and what happens if ADT cannot service the new address.

After cancellation
Cancellation raises three separate questions:
- Does monitoring stop? Professional monitoring ends according to the cancellation terms. Without it, ADT cannot notify emergency contacts or services on your behalf.
- Will the equipment still work? Do not assume every ADT device becomes a fully independent alarm system. Functionality depends on the equipment generation, firmware, ownership terms, and compatibility.
- Will cameras continue working? Some Nest functions require internet, Wi-Fi, a Google Account, Google Home, ADT+, and the relevant service. Verify the post-cancellation functions for your exact devices.
ADT contract materials warn that some equipment may not operate with another monitoring company. Obtain written confirmation about ownership and compatibility before purchasing a large system.
What is the Quality Service Plan?
The Quality Service Plan, or QSP, is an optional extended limited warranty included in some offers. ADT’s current ecommerce terms list essential product protection starting at $8 per month.
QSP is not professional monitoring, homeowners insurance, or a promise that every service call is free. It also does not protect against every form of damage, misuse, or contract obligation.

ADT’s money-back guarantee is conditional. The official terms say it applies only after ADT attempts to resolve a system-related problem and cannot do so within the first six months. Continuous QSP and professional monitoring are required, and equipment must be returned before a refund is processed. This is not a general six-month free trial.

ADT’s Google ecosystem is one of its clearest strengths, particularly for households already using Nest cameras, Google Home, or Yale-compatible locks. Depending on the plan and equipment, users can combine security controls, cameras, automation, and access control.
The limitations matter:
- Some functions require both ADT+ and Google Home.
- Video, recording, and live-view features require working internet and Wi-Fi.
- Security controls may not be available equally in Google Home.
- Advanced features may be restricted to Complete or qualifying equipment.
- Notifications can appear through ADT+, Google Home, both, or neither depending on the setup.
- Older Nest equipment may have compatibility limitations.
NerdWallet’s review notes that Nest notifications and controls can be divided between ADT+ and Google Home. ADT also states that Trusted Neighbor requires Complete, Nest Aware, Google familiar-face detection, an ADT Base, and compatible locks and cameras. Familiar-face detection is not definitive identity verification and is unavailable on Nest cameras used in Illinois.

Internet or Wi-Fi outage
A Wi-Fi or internet failure can interrupt app access, remote controls, live video, and recording. Cellular backup may preserve alarm communication, but it does not necessarily restore video streaming or every smart-home function.
Permits and guard-response requirements
Local rules vary. ADT says that where it must obtain an alarm permit, it may charge the permit amount plus a one-time $8 processing fee. Its monitoring terms also indicate that municipalities requiring guard response for alarm verification may add an $8 monthly fee. Neither charge should be assumed to apply everywhere.
False alarms
Professional monitoring does not eliminate local false-alarm laws or fines. Verification requirements and emergency-dispatch policies vary by municipality. Ask the local authority and ADT how your address is handled.

Third-party dealers
Confirm whether the seller is ADT directly or an authorized dealer. Before paying, make sure the monthly price, equipment list, installation fee, contract term, cancellation language, financing documents, and any separate dealer agreement all match.
ADT compared with no-contract alternatives
Competitor pricing is not included here because current prices were not separately verified. The useful comparison is by ownership model and buyer needs:

ADT is a good fit if you:
- Own your home and expect to stay for several years.
- Want professional installation and troubleshooting support.
- Prefer a staffed professional monitoring service.
- Need intrusion plus fire, water, temperature, or carbon-monoxide monitoring.
- Use Google Nest, Google Home, or Yale devices.
- Can comfortably accept the contract and calculate the full term cost.
ADT is a poor fit if you:
- Rent or may move soon.
- Require truly no-contract professional monitoring.
- Are comfortable installing and configuring your own system.

Final verdict
ADT is a solid managed-security choice, not a universal bargain. It makes the most sense for homeowners who value professional installation, 24/7 monitoring, cellular alarm communication, environmental protection, and Google Nest integration enough to accept a higher and less predictable total cost.
Self Setup is the more flexible ADT path and is worth comparing if you want to avoid a long professional-installation contract.
