Acoustic Divider Vario creates temporary quiet zones in an open office by combining acoustic textile faces with a sound-insulating inner layer on a ceiling rail. It divides a workspace without building a permanent wall, so teams can establish calmer areas for calls, focused work or small meetings while retaining a flexible floor plan.
The result depends on the selected construction, coverage, rail and room geometry. Treat it as a professionally designed acoustic partition, not a sealed booth or a universal soundproofing guarantee. A project survey and manufacturer calculation are essential before ordering.

What Acoustic Divider Vario is—and what it is not
Acoustic Divider Vario is a made-to-measure textile partition-curtain system from Création Baumann. Its purpose is flexible room zoning: a curtain can be opened when a team needs one large floor plate and closed when people need visual separation and less sound transmission. Because the rail is installed overhead, the system can divide an office without constructing a fixed partition.
The curtain creates a boundary rather than an airtight enclosure. Speech and equipment noise can still travel around the top, sides or bottom, and reflections from the surrounding ceiling, floor and walls remain part of what occupants hear. The manufacturer’s published results therefore cannot be treated as a guaranteed in-room outcome for every floor plan. Coverage, gaps, room dimensions, fabric selection and installation quality all affect the experience.

How the acoustic construction works
Outer fabrics and the inner sound barrier
The system combines acoustic fabrics on the two outer faces with an inner sound-insulating layer. The visible textiles can be selected for the project, allowing the partition to coordinate with an interior scheme while the concealed layers perform the acoustic work.
NoiseBlocker uses a synthetic-rubber membrane as its inner barrier. NoiseSilencer uses one or two inner layers. The manufacturer’s simulation software calculates the expected reduction for the chosen textile combination, so the named configuration alone is not enough to predict a completed installation.
Published figures and their limits
Création Baumann states: “With just three layers, ACOUSTIC DIVIDER VARIO achieves a sound reduction of up to 23 decibels.” That wording applies to the product claim, not to every room. The current product page also describes NoiseSilencer as reducing sound by up to 16 dB.
| Configuration | Inner construction | Published manufacturer figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| NoiseBlocker | Synthetic-rubber membrane with the selected acoustic outer fabrics | Up to 23 dB | Manufacturer specification; “up to” is a maximum, not a guaranteed field result. |
| NoiseSilencer | One or two inner sound-insulating layers | Up to 16 dB on the current product page; the brochure gives 11–16 dB | The brochure labels its calculations as under ideal conditions. |
The figures above come from Création Baumann’s product information accessed in 2026 and its brochure, which search indexing dates to approximately 2023: Room partitioning and areas of calm: Acoustic Divider Vario. They are manufacturer-reported calculations or specifications, not independent measurements of every installed office. Ask for the calculated result for your actual fabric, dimensions and layout, and keep the ideal-condition qualification with the number when presenting it to stakeholders.
Plan the quiet zone before requesting a quote
1. Define the activity and the noise problem
Start with the work that needs protection: telephone calls, concentration, collaborative sessions or a combination. Mark the desks, printers, kitchens, circulation paths and other sources that will remain outside the zone. A curtain can reduce transmission between neighboring areas, but it cannot remove noise generated inside the zone. Decide whether the priority is a visual retreat, lower speech levels at nearby desks, or a more private setting for conversations.

2. Map the opening and the coverage
Draw the proposed curtain line on the reflected ceiling plan and note where it will start, stop and change direction. Record ceiling height, nearby bulkheads, lights, sprinklers, ventilation grilles and access panels. The acoustic path is not limited to the fabric: sound can pass through uncovered edges or follow a route above the curtain. Your designer or installer should identify those paths and explain what the selected coverage can and cannot address.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3. Choose the fabric and visual finish
Fabric choice affects appearance, weight and the result calculated by the manufacturer’s software. Compare the available face textiles, colors, seams and edge finishes with the office’s fire, cleaning and durability requirements. Ask whether the proposed arrangement is pleated or flat; the brochure describes both options. A pleated curtain and a flat curtain may occupy different amounts of space when open and impose different weight and stacking requirements.
4. Decide how the curtain meets the floor
The brochure describes textiles configured standing on the floor or hanging. A floor-standing arrangement can define a stronger visual boundary, while a hanging arrangement may be appropriate where the floor must remain clear. The project team should document the intended relationship to the floor and any planned gap, because that detail affects light, sightlines, movement and sound leakage.
5. Select the rail and operation
The current system uses a ceiling-mounted metal rail that can be straight or curved, with hand or motor operation. The published profile capacities are 90 kg and 150 kg. Those values are not a universal allowance: the correct rail depends on the selected fabric weight, curtain dimensions, span, support spacing and mounting surface. Have the installer verify the actual rail and fixing design rather than treating a capacity figure as permission to load any configuration to that amount.
6. Confirm made-to-measure scope
Acoustic Divider Vario is delivered finished and made to measure. Your quote should identify surveyed dimensions, fabric combination, layer configuration, pleated or flat construction, floor-standing or hanging arrangement, rail geometry, operation, fixing method and installer responsibilities. For a North American project, Carnegie Fabrics’ Acoustic Divider Vario page describes a route through approved workrooms and installers. Availability and local scope should be confirmed for the specific region.

Use the manufacturer’s calculation as a design checkpoint
Before fabrication, request a project-specific simulation for the exact textile combination and proposed curtain geometry. The calculation should be attached to the drawing set or quote so that everyone is discussing the same configuration. If the design changes from flat to pleated, adds a curve, changes height or substitutes a fabric, request an updated result rather than carrying the earlier figure forward.
Read the output as a modeled expectation under stated conditions. Ask which surfaces and gaps were included, what measurement convention was used, and whether the result represents the curtain itself or a larger room condition. A model cannot compensate for a rail that is fixed incorrectly, an opening left uncovered or a room whose reflective surfaces differ materially from the plan.
Installation workflow for a reliable result
- Survey the site. Have the installer verify ceiling construction, fixing points, obstructions, clear height, access for lifting and the path required to move the curtain.
- Freeze the acoustic and architectural brief. Confirm the target activity, curtain boundaries, fabric, layer configuration, operating method and whether the textile will stand on the floor or hang.
- Review the calculated performance. Obtain the manufacturer’s simulation for the selected combination and record its conditions and limitations in the project documentation.
- Engineer the rail and supports. Check the selected 90 kg or 150 kg profile, the actual curtain mass, span, support spacing and substrate. Resolve reinforcement or supplemental framing before installation.
- Coordinate building services. Adjust the rail route around lighting, sprinklers, diffusers, detectors and access panels while preserving the planned coverage.
- Install the ceiling rail. Expert installation is recommended by the manufacturer for optimum functionality. The installer should set the rail straight or curved as designed and verify every fixing.
- Hang and finish the textile. Fit the finished curtain, establish the intended pleats or flat arrangement, and check that the fabric travels freely without rubbing against services or adjacent construction.
- Commission both manual and motor systems. Operate the curtain through its full travel, check stops and clearances, and show users how to open, close and park it without forcing the fabric or hardware.
- Record the handover condition. Keep the final dimensions, fabric references, rail type, operating instructions and installer contact with the facilities documentation. Photograph the installed boundaries so later furniture moves do not unintentionally block or bypass the zone.
Configuration choices to compare in a project quote
| Decision axis | Option A | Option B | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Acoustic build | NoiseBlocker | NoiseSilencer | Which calculated result meets the activity’s needs for this room? |
| Visible textile | Selected acoustic fabric and finish | Alternative fabric, seam or edge treatment | Does the chosen textile satisfy appearance, weight and maintenance requirements? |
| Construction | Pleated | Flat | How much stacking space and rail capacity does the arrangement require? |
| Floor relationship | Standing on the floor | Hanging | What boundary, clearance and leakage conditions are acceptable? |
| Rail path | Straight | Curved | Does the route follow the plan without clashing with services or structure? |
| Operation | Hand-operated | Motor-operated | Who will use it, how often, and what controls or power coordination are needed? |
| Capacity | 90 kg profile | 150 kg profile | Which profile is justified by the actual span, fabric mass and support design? |
These are project decisions, not interchangeable accessories. A quote that lists only a curtain width and a rail length does not establish acoustic performance or structural suitability.

Expecting a “soundproof room”
If confidential speech still carries, first compare the installed condition with the approved drawing: check uncovered ends, top clearances, floor relationship and any open route around the zone. Then ask the installer whether a different boundary, fabric combination or NoiseBlocker calculation is appropriate. Do not describe the system as completely soundproof.

Ordering a generic ceiling track
A marketplace search for “ceiling-mount room divider curtain track” may produce inexpensive DIY room-divider curtains. That category is not a verified Acoustic Divider Vario substitute, and no compatibility or equivalent acoustic test result is established for a particular listing. A secondary overview such as this office-acoustics room-divider article does not verify an individual product. Do not transfer Acoustic Divider Vario’s dB figures to a generic track.
Ignoring the ceiling structure
Attaching a rail to an unsuitable substrate can compromise safety and operation. The installer must identify the mounting surface and any reinforcement before the rail is ordered. The rail’s nominal capacity alone does not account for the selected fabric, span or fixing arrangement.
Changing materials after approval
Substituting a face fabric, changing the number of inner layers or altering height can change weight and calculated performance. Treat such a change as a design revision and obtain a new calculation and rail check.
Procurement and budgeting questions
Because the system is custom-made and professionally installed, there is no single off-the-shelf price that answers every project. Request an itemized quote covering survey, design calculation, textile fabrication, rail and supports, controls, delivery, installation and commissioning. Ask which items are allowances and which are fixed, what site preparation is excluded, and how changes after measurement are priced.
Before signing, confirm lead time for the selected fabric, who takes final measurements, who coordinates ceiling access, and whether local installation is included. For projects outside the manufacturer’s normal service area, identify the authorized representative or approved workroom responsible for fabrication and the party responsible for the rail installation.

When Acoustic Divider Vario is the right fit
Choose this system when an office needs adaptable zones and a finished architectural appearance without committing to permanent construction. Its value comes from integrating acoustic layers, configurable textiles and a professionally installed rail into one measured design. The right specification is the one whose geometry, fabric, operation and calculated performance match the work taking place in the zone—not the one with the largest headline number alone.
