Abodu’s Seattle launch was reported on August 30, 2022—not as a current expansion. The California-based backyard-home company offered detached accessory dwelling units (DADUs), and GeekWire reported that Redfin CEO Glenn Kelman was among its investors. The available company information does not establish whether Abodu currently sells in Seattle or whether its Seattle showroom is still open.
What Abodu announced for Seattle
GeekWire reported that Abodu, then based in Redwood City, California, had opened a downtown Seattle office as it expanded beyond California. Its product was a detached accessory dwelling unit: a separate living space built on the same property as an existing home. Seattle approval and permitting are necessary for a DADU to be legal; the rules described in the 2022 report are historical, not current permitting guidance.
At launch, GeekWire described three Seattle designs: a 340-square-foot studio, a 500-square-foot one-bedroom and a 610-square-foot two-bedroom unit. The same report gave a starting price of $228,900 before taxes, fees and site-specific work, and said onsite construction took four to six weeks. What Abodu submitted to Seattle
A separate Abodu pre-approval submission hosted by Seattle’s Office of Planning & Community Development described a 335-square-foot studio and a 495-square-foot one-bedroom Abodu One. These areas differ from the figures GeekWire reported for the launch lineup; the sources describe different materials, so the numbers should not be treated as interchangeable.

The submission discussed FSC-certified timber, a heat-pump water heater, a high-efficiency mini-split HVAC system and insulation specifications. What the Redfin connection means
GeekWire reported that Redfin CEO Glenn Kelman was among Abodu’s investors and that Abodu had raised $25 million in equity funding by the time of the 2022 article. That is an investment connection; it does not make Redfin the builder, owner or operator of Abodu. GeekWire also reported that Abodu had delivered more than 100 homes in 35 California cities at that time.

Is Abodu available in Seattle now?
Current Abodu company pages describe a California-focused ADU business, list models from a 385-square-foot Studio to a 1,195-square-foot Three+, and identify Bobby Shokri as CEO. The company says Shokri acquired Abodu in 2025. Those current details are distinct from the Seattle products reported in 2022. Although an Abodu showroom article mentions Seattle, that reference does not establish that the location is open or that Seattle sales are available. Contact Abodu directly to confirm current service-area and showroom status before making plans.

What Seattle homeowners should verify before planning a DADU
A launch-era product description is not a substitute for a site-specific feasibility check. Before comparing proposals, confirm the current rules with the relevant local jurisdiction and evaluate the complete project scope, not just a home’s advertised floor area or base price.
