In late September 2026, the developer’s chief executive said the tower had reached the 116th floor and stood about 466 metres above sea level. The planned height is over one kilometre, but the company has not announced an exact final figure, and 2028 is a current target rather than a guaranteed completion date.
How progress has moved since the 2023 restart report
When New Atlas reported the restart on 21 September 2023, the tower was at roughly 60 floors after several years with little visible progress. The table below sets that report beside the two later progress statements. Each row comes from a different publisher and reference point, so read the table as a sequence of checkpoints, not as a measured construction rate.
| Date of statement | Reported position | Who reported it |
|---|---|---|
| September 2023 (New Atlas, published 21 September 2023) | About 60 floors; restart reported; no official finish date announced at that time | New Atlas, citing the restart report of the time |
| 20 April 2026 | 100 floors and 400 metres | Thornton Tomasetti, the project’s structural engineer, in a milestone post |
| Late September 2026 (interview published 6 October 2026) | 116th floor; about 466 metres above sea level | Fabien Toscano, chief executive of Jeddah Economic Company (JEC), as quoted by MEED |
Toscano also described a core-floor cycle of roughly five days. If that pace holds, it would account for the gain from the April milestone to late September, though the sources do not state how many floors were built in that period, and this article does not calculate a pace from them.
In the MEED interview, Toscano summed up the current position this way: “As of late September 2026, the tower had reached the 116th floor, about 466 metres above sea level, so it’s moving very well.”

How tall will Jeddah Tower be?
The planned height is over one kilometre, but the final figure has not been published. Toscano said the building “will be the first building to actually exceed the 1-kilometre mark, making it the world’s tallest tower when completed,” and added that the final height was not yet ready to announce.
Two readings of height are in circulation, and they should not be mixed. The 466 metres quoted for late September 2026 is a height above sea level at the current point of construction. It is not the building’s architectural height. The 400 metres in the April 2026 milestone comes from a different publisher and is not stated on the same basis, so subtracting one from the other to estimate growth would not be sound.
Completion timeline
JEC’s current target is completion in 2028, according to Toscano’s comments to MEED. Completion expectations for this tower have shifted before, so treat 2028 as the developer’s present target. No independent schedule review has been published in the sources reviewed, so the date rests on the developer’s statement.
Engineering: a tapering, three-legged tower
Thornton Tomasetti describes a three-legged plan and a continuously tapering vertical profile, inspired by the folded fronds of a desert plant that sprouts after rain. The shape responds to wind loads on a very tall structure. The firm says its work with AS+GG and RWDI included advanced computational structural modelling and extensive wind-tunnel testing to assess wind loads and building movement.

Structural system
The firm describes a concrete-based structural system with interconnected walls. Concrete walls that are tied together distribute lateral loads through the core and legs, which is the basic logic behind wind-resistant tall buildings of this type. The structural engineering details are Thornton Tomasetti’s account and have not been independently checked.
Foundation
According to Thornton Tomasetti’s project page (accessed 2026), the foundation is a raft 5 metres thick, supported by 270 bored piles. Each pile is 1.8 metres in diameter and extends up to 105 metres deep.
Project team
Thornton Tomasetti lists Jeddah Economic Company, Langan, RWDI, Dar Al-Handasah, Saudi Binladin Group and Turner International among the project participants. It credits Saudi Binladin Group for the construction progress image used in its April 2026 post.
What the tower is planned to contain
Toscano described a mixed-use programme in the MEED interview. Everything below is a plan from the developer or the design team. None of it is open or bookable as of this article’s date.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Jeddah Economic City around the tower
Toscano describes the tower as part of the wider Jeddah Economic City masterplan in north Jeddah, covering 5.3 million square metres. He said the first phase covers 1.7 million square metres, that its infrastructure is in place, and that its plots are individually titled. These are the chief executive’s own account in a trade-press interview and have not been independently verified.
Why the project stalled, and what remains unclear
New Atlas’s 2023 report attributed the long pause in construction to political fallout from arrests and purges. That is a causal claim made in one report, and it should be read as reported rather than established. Nothing in the later progress statements addresses the cause of the earlier delay.
The 2023 report also cited an original budget of around US$1.2 billion and warned that the cost might have risen. That figure is historical. No current cost estimate appears in the sources reviewed, so do not use the US$1.2 billion figure as the project’s present cost.
Quick Recap
What to watch next
- Updated floor counts from JEC or the structural engineer, which would show whether the five-day cycle continues.
- An official architectural height. Until one is announced, “over one kilometre” is the only stated figure.
- Any confirmation of observation-deck opening dates, hotel opening, or the 2027 residential sales plan.
- Any independent review of the 2028 completion target.
