Start with the load and the installation before assuming a part has failed. Pause the cycle, redistribute or resize the laundry, confirm the washer does not rock, and run a small test load. If the warning keeps returning after that, the next step is your model’s manual or Samsung service.
What the UE or UB warning means
Samsung’s India support page, last updated February 3, 2026, states: “Your Samsung washing machine will display a UE / UB code when it detects an unbalanced load and stops the spin for safety reasons.” In other words, the code is the washer telling you it has sensed uneven weight in the drum and has stopped the spin rather than continue. The exact display and wording vary by model and by market, so the code on your panel may look different from what your neighbour’s machine shows.
Samsung’s US support guidance describes the same underlying behaviour in plain terms. Laundry may not distribute evenly and leave too much weight on one side. The result can be vibration, a spin that is interrupted or slower than normal, or an error message. Not every shake triggers a code, but the mechanism is the same: the drum is carrying uneven weight at high speed.
Why loads go out of balance
Laundry bunched to one side
Clothing that clumps against the agitator or wall of the tub creates a heavy side. This is the most common cause and the easiest to fix, because it does not depend on the machine at all.

Very small loads
A single towel or a few garments can gather together during the spin and leave the drum unevenly weighted. Samsung’s guidance notes that for a very small load, adding a few items to balance it, or lowering the spin speed where the cycle allows, may help.
Bulky, absorbent items
Sheets, blankets, duvet covers, and similar bedding are the classic trigger. They tangle, and they hold a substantial amount of water, so one section of the drum can become much heavier than the rest. Samsung India’s regional guidance gives a bedding-cover capacity of 3.0 kg or less. Treat that as the recommendation on that page for that market, not a universal limit for every Samsung top-loader. Check the owner’s manual for your model’s stated capacity.

Overloading
If the drum is packed so tightly that the laundry cannot move, it cannot settle evenly. Samsung’s guidance says to remove some items if the washer is overloaded.
Check the installation before the load
A washer that rocks on its feet will read as unbalanced even when the laundry is spread perfectly. Samsung recommends a firm, level floor and a check for rocking, secure foot contact, and level placement. A slippery or damaged floor can also make the machine unstable during spin.

Leg design differs between Samsung top-loaders. Some models have four adjustable legs, while others have two or three. Do not assume that every leg can be turned. Find the leg arrangement in your model’s manual and adjust only the legs it describes. Samsung does not specify a particular levelling tool, but a standard spirit level placed across the top of the cabinet is a simple way to see whether the machine sits level front to back and side to side.
Troubleshooting order
- Pause the cycle and redistribute the laundry. If items have bunched on one side, pause, spread them evenly around the drum, and restart. Untangle sheets and blankets before restarting.
- Adjust the load size or spin speed. If the load is very small, add a few items to balance it. If it is overloaded, remove some. If bedding keeps causing trouble, consider a lower spin speed where the selected cycle and manual allow it.
- Check that the washer does not rock. Push gently on the top corners and sides. Any movement or rocking means the leveling needs attention.
- Level the machine and confirm all feet contact the floor. Adjust the legs described in your manual until the washer sits firm and level, then confirm each foot is seated on a stable surface.
- Run a small test load after leveling. Samsung recommends this to see whether the shaking continues.
- Use only the calibration steps your model supports. Samsung’s support instructions describe a common calibration button sequence, but say to consult the owner’s manual if the sequence does not match your panel. Some models do not have a calibration mode at all. Do not follow a generic button sequence without confirming it for your model.
- Escalate if the imbalance keeps returning. If redistribution and stable leveling do not resolve repeated imbalance, contact Samsung service or use the support page for your exact model.
When to contact Samsung service
Call Samsung when the warning returns after you have redistributed the load, checked the bedding and load size, and confirmed the washer is stable and level. Have the full model code ready. It is printed on the washer’s label, and the model code determines which manual, leg configuration, and calibration steps apply. Service can inspect the machine in person and diagnose the cause, which is more reliable than guessing.

What not to assume
Repeated imbalance does not by itself prove that a suspension rod or any other internal component is defective. Samsung’s published troubleshooting does not diagnose component failure from the warning alone, and it does not provide a model-independent repair procedure. Avoid opening the cabinet or buying replacement parts until a model has been identified and a diagnosis has been made. A washer that is simply loaded unevenly or sitting on an uneven floor will show the same warning as one with a worn part.
Samsung’s published support pages do not give a national statistic on how often this warning is caused by load, installation, or hardware. Treat the checks above as the practical order to work through, not as a percentage-based diagnosis.

Regional and model limits
- Codes and wording depend on the model and the market. The UE/UB display quoted above comes from Samsung India’s support page.
- Bedding capacity of 3.0 kg or less is Samsung India’s regional recommendation for bedding covers, not a universal figure.
- Leg configuration and calibration differ by model. Samsung US support notes that these are not universal across the range.
- Manual first: the owner’s manual for your exact model code overrides any general guidance in this article.
Keep in mind
Most repeat imbalance warnings on a Samsung top-load washer trace back to laundry distribution, bedding, or a machine that is not level on its floor. Work through those three areas methodically, use the calibration steps only if your model supports them, and involve Samsung service once the warning persists after those checks.
