Vouwwow is a foldable lounge-chair design by Dutch Studio Nuy van Noort. A 2013 report describes its structure as six plywood pieces between outer layers of PET-felt made from recycled plastic bottles—not a chair made entirely from bottles. It arrives flat packed, forms into a seat with three folds and fastens with a Velcro strip.
What is the Vouwwow chair?
New Atlas reported on Vouwwow VW02 at Fuori Salone during Milan Design Week. The chair was designed by Dutch Studio Nuy van Noort as a portable lounge chair that could be transported flat and folded into shape.
The report describes the PET-felt version as an upgraded design based on the studio’s earlier cardboard chair, VW01. New Atlas says VW01 won the Thonet Mart Stam Prize in 2009; that award detail is reported by the article, rather than independently confirmed here.
How does the Vouwwow chair fold?
- Start with the flat-packed chair. The 2013 report says it is delivered flat.
- Make three folds. The folded panels form the lounge-chair shape.
- Secure it. A strong Velcro strip holds the structure together.
New Atlas reported an assembly time of about 30 seconds. It presented flat packing as a way to make storage and transport more efficient, but did not provide folded or unfolded dimensions.

What is it made from?
The reported construction combines six separate plywood pieces with two outer layers of PET-felt. The recycled-plastic-bottle claim applies specifically to the felt. The source does not provide a component-by-component recycled-content breakdown or independent certification, so it does not establish that the entire chair is made from recycled bottles.
New Atlas also described the product as using 100 percent recycled and recyclable materials. Because the same article identifies plywood as part of the structure but gives no detailed material accounting or certification, that broad claim should be understood as the report’s product claim, not as a verified specification.

What is known about durability and environmental impact?
The 2013 report characterized the PET-felt as durable and resistant and said the chair could be folded repeatedly with little wear. It did not describe a test method or cite independent durability evidence, so those qualities are reported claims rather than established test results.
No quantified lifecycle assessment or independent environmental study is identified in the available account. Recycled feedstock alone does not establish the chair’s overall environmental impact.
