If your Samsung oven door is locked, let the oven cool first—especially after Self Clean. When it is cool, check for Control Lock or Child Lock, then try Samsung’s door-specific 60-second circuit-breaker reset. If the door remains locked, do not force it; contact Samsung service.
Why a Samsung oven door locks
Samsung says the door locks as a safety precaution when the oven gets too hot. During or after Self Clean, the lock may stay engaged until the oven cools sufficiently. Samsung warns that forcing the door can damage the automatic lock system. Samsung’s oven-cleaning instructions explain the Self Clean lock behavior.
How to unlock it safely
- Wait for the oven to cool. If Self Clean has just run, allow the oven to cool before trying to open the door. Do not pry or pull hard against a locked door.
- Check the lock indicator and controls. Look for a padlock icon, “Loc,” or a Control Lock/Oven Lock control. If the oven is cool and the controls respond, use the lock-release procedure in the manual for your exact model. Samsung notes that control-lock labels and actions vary by model; see its control-panel and lock guidance.
- Turn the range on and check the panel. Samsung notes that on some models the door may lock when power is off. Turn the range on, wait briefly, and check whether the buttons respond.
- Reset power if the door remains locked. Turn the range off at the circuit breaker for 60 seconds, then turn it back on. This is Samsung’s door-specific reset advice for a locked door. Do not repeatedly cycle power while the oven is still hot. See Samsung’s locked-door troubleshooting steps.
When to request service
Contact Samsung service if the door remains locked after the oven has cooled and you have tried the 60-second breaker reset. Also seek service if an error code appears or the latch seems mechanically stuck. Samsung identifies a stuck latch as one possible door problem in its door troubleshooting guidance; that symptom alone does not confirm which part has failed.
If the display shows a “door” error, Samsung advises checking whether the door plunger switch moves freely. If it is stiff or does not extend, contact support rather than forcing it. See Samsung’s range and wall-oven error-code guidance.

Use the manual for model-specific controls
Do not assume a button sequence from another oven applies to yours. Find the model number and consult its manual for the precise Control Lock or Child Lock procedure. If the controls are unresponsive, Samsung’s separate panel troubleshooting guide discusses a 30-second breaker reset for an unresponsive panel; for a door that remains locked, follow the door-specific 60-second reset above.
