On Samsung refrigerators with an Energy Saver setting, the feature generally switches off the heater around the doors or center mullion to save a small amount of energy. The tradeoff is that condensation may form there. If you see droplets around the doors, Samsung advises turning Energy Saver off; the exact control and behavior depend on the model.
What Energy Saver mode does
Samsung’s Canada guidance for covered French-door models says Energy Saver turns off the center hinge flap heater. With the heater off, a small amount of energy is saved, but condensation may form between the doors. When the setting is off, the heater operates to help prevent condensation, using slightly more energy. Samsung’s cited guidance does not establish a specific percentage, annual kilowatt-hour reduction, or bill savings. It describes the energy saving only as small. Do not assume the setting changes the food-compartment temperature or turns off normal cooling: the specific heater explanation is model-dependent, and broader descriptions may not apply to every refrigerator.
Should Energy Saver be on or off?

Use the setting based on what you observe and the instructions for your model. If the door area stays dry, you may prefer the modest energy saving. If condensation or water droplets appear around the doors, switch the feature off so the heater can operate. Samsung Hong Kong specifically advises this response. What to do if you see condensation
- Turn Energy Saver off if the display and your model’s manual confirm that this control is enabled. This allows the door heater to operate on applicable models.
- Wipe the moisture dry. Samsung Canada notes condensation can occur even with Energy Saver off, especially in humid conditions or summer. Persistent moisture can encourage mildew or mold. Samsung Canada’s guidance
- Check whether the door seal closes properly if moisture persists or the door does not seem to seal. A damaged or poorly closing seal is a separate issue; turning Energy Saver off will not repair it. Find the control for your exact refrigerator
Not every Samsung refrigerator has this setting, and the button, display indicator, and operation can differ by model and region. Samsung Gulf lists the RF28R7351SG and RF29RB7351SG as examples of compatible units and directs owners to their model manuals. Some models may require pressing and holding a control, but there is no universal button sequence or indicator color. Samsung Gulf’s model guidance
Find the model number on the refrigerator label, then use that number to locate its manual or regional Samsung support page. Follow the control instructions there rather than relying on another model’s button combination.

Energy Saver is not Cooling Off mode
Cooling Off mode, also called Shop mode in Samsung US support material, is a separate setting. In that mode, the fan and lights may work, but the compressor does not run and the refrigerator and freezer do not get cold. Samsung’s instructions for entering and leaving it vary by model. If the display shows “OFF” or “OF OF” and the refrigerator is not cooling, consult the model-specific Cooling Off instructions. Energy Saver is not the same mode and should not be treated as the cause or remedy for a refrigerator that has stopped cooling.

What happens after power is restored?
Samsung Hong Kong says Energy Saver may turn on automatically when power is supplied to the refrigerator. This is guidance for applicable models, not a universal restart rule; the display design and behavior vary. Check the manual for your exact unit if the setting changes after an outage.
