The right woodworking T-square depends on the workpiece and the line you need to mark. For broad layout, choose a blade long enough to span the stock; for small joinery or hardware locations, a pocket model may be easier to handle. Look for a stable edge-registration feature and graduations or guide holes suited to your marking task. Product descriptions explain intended uses, but the available sources do not establish an independently tested accuracy winner.
What a woodworking T-square is for
A T-square registers its crosspiece against the edge of a board so you can mark a line parallel to that edge. With the tool held against the stock, slide it along the edge while marking through a guide hole or against the scale. This is useful for repeatable layout, but it is not the same as checking or marking a line square to the edge.
Woodpeckers describes a support lip on its Precision Woodworking T-Square that rests on the stock and is intended to help keep the tool from rolling. That is a manufacturer-described design feature, not an independently verified performance result. Woodpeckers Precision Woodworking T-Square
How to choose a T-square for your work
Choose length for the layout span
Match the blade to the stock and the longest practical line you expect to mark. A compact tool is handy for localized joinery and hardware marks; a longer blade reaches across wider panels and boards. The cited examples range from pocket formats and 60 mm tools to blades as long as 32 inches or 120 cm. These are available formats, not evidence that one length is more accurate.

- 【multifunctional T-Square Ruler】The combination of ruler and protractor makes it can measure length and angles easily. The angle ruler has a clear and accurate scale and can measure length (0-48 cm/0-18 inches), whether you are drawing a line or measuring an angle, you can meet your work needs at the same time, saving you time and effort.
- 【High Qualtiy】The body of the adjustable woodworking ruler is made of aluminum alloy, which has good abrasion resistance and is not easy to deform. the angle finder tool is both lightweight and sturdy. If you're looking for an accurate angle measuring tool, our aluminium construction protractors is just what you need.
- 【Adjustable Angle Finder Tool】Our angle protractor is not an ordinary angle measuring tool. It has multi-angle scribing function, By unscrew the nut in the desired position, you can quickly and accurately identify angles and draw straight lines for setting bevels, drawing radial lines, measuring and marking angles.
- 【Laser Engraved Scales】The angle protractor dial is engraved with laser engraved measurements for clear readability and durability. The numbers and scales on the angle protractor dial can be clearly displayed in different environments.
- 【Multi-functional Protractor】The Carpenter Work Ruler comes with a red mechanical pencil with 8 refills. It is suitable for engineering, angle measurement, drawing, architectural design, length measurement, a useful tool for craftsmen, designers, artists and engineers.
Match the scale to your measuring system
Check whether you work in inches, millimetres, or both, and whether the graduations are easy to read at the scale you need. Woodpeckers lists inch configurations of 12, 24, and 32 inches and a 600 mm option. Kapro lists adjustable versions in 90 cm (36 inches) and 120 cm (48 inches), with centimetre or inch scales. Check how it registers on the edge
The crosspiece should sit securely against the board edge while you mark. Consider its shape, contact area, and whether it stays stable as you slide the tool. A lip can help locate the tool on the workpiece; the existence of a lip alone does not establish a tool’s measured accuracy.

- 【Thoughtful Support Lips】Each T-Square consists of a precisely machined, laser engraved, aluminum blade perfectly fitted to a solid, billet handle with two support lips to prevent tipping and a perfectly machined edge for true squaring.
- 【Precise Marking】On the two outer edges of the blade, there are laser engraved lines every 1/32in , and the blade itself has precisely spaced 1.3mm holes drilled every 1/16in. Stick a pencil in the hole, slide it along your workpiece and a perfectly spaced line accurately following the stock edge.
- 【Humanized Design】The inch or metric scales are very clear and readable even for olders and poor lighting conditions. The blade edges are machined to a 45 degree bevel, The beveled design reduces parallax and increases measuring and marking accuracy.
- 【Premium Quality】Made of high-quality aluminum alloy material, wear-resistant, rust-proof, durable and hard to break. Suitable for architectural drawing design, carpentry, etc.
- 【0.7mm & 0.9mm】we prefer the 0.7 and 0.9mm mechanical pencil when drawing spaced lines, it is fine enough to do precision work and not easy to broke compared with 0.5mm, also easier than a wooden pencil.
Choose guide holes for the marks you repeat
Guide holes can make repeated offsets easier, but their spacing determines which tasks they suit. Woodpeckers specifies 1/16-inch scribing guides and 1/4-inch shelf-pin holes on 1-inch centers for its Precision Woodworking T-Square. Its pocket models are described with 1/32-inch guide holes for smaller layout tasks. Sutton Tools’ Carbitool Layout T-Square catalogue describes millimetre pattern holes. How to check a T-square before relying on it
For critical layout, check the actual tool against a trusted reference rather than assuming that a precision label guarantees a particular tolerance. Confirm that the crosspiece registers consistently against the stock edge and that the scale or guide holes suit the marks you need. If your work requires a square line across the board, use a suitable square or another verified method; a T-square’s edge registration is intended to help mark parallel lines.
