There is no single best glue for every glass-to-plastic repair. Identify the plastic first, then choose an adhesive whose current label or technical data sheet explicitly approves both glass and that plastic for the conditions the repair will face. Loctite Glass Glue is a household candidate for glass and certain nonporous plastics; 3M 08641 is a specialized adhesive for vehicle-glass channels, not a general-purpose home repair glue.
How to choose a glass-to-plastic adhesive
Glass compatibility alone is not enough. Plastics vary, and a product described for “certain plastics” should not be assumed to bond every resin. Check the part for a resin identification marking or consult its manufacturer; if the plastic remains unknown, do not rely on a broad product name such as “glass glue” or “super glue.”
- Identify the plastic. Look for a resin code or product documentation.
- Check both substrates. Confirm the adhesive manufacturer names glass and that specific plastic, and that the intended repair is within the product’s stated use.
- Check service conditions. Verify whether the bond will encounter water, heat, outdoor exposure, movement, or food contact.
- Follow the exact product instructions. Surface preparation, application, assembly window, and cure time differ by adhesive.
Adhesive options and what they are intended for

The cited manufacturer materials do not provide controlled head-to-head strength testing. They therefore do not establish an objectively strongest universal adhesive. Compare approved substrates, intended application, bond-line appearance, and stated exposure and cure limits—not just the word “strong.”
For a household repair: Loctite Glass Glue
Loctite says Glass Glue is recommended for glass bonded to nonporous materials such as metal and “certain plastics.” That makes it a candidate only when the particular plastic is covered by the current product directions. Its product page specifies indoor use and says it is not recommended for exterior surfaces.

For this product, Loctite’s guidance recommends cleaning the surfaces, applying a thin, consistent layer, pressing the pieces together, and leaving them undisturbed for at least 10 minutes; it recommends leaving the bond overnight for full bond strength. The guidance says to wait at least one week before dishwasher use. Dishwasher use after cure does not mean the adhesive is food safe: Loctite says it is not food safe. Follow the current package and manufacturer instructions for the actual item being repaired.
For a vehicle-glass channel: 3M 08641
3M describes 08641 as a two-component black epoxy for bonding vehicle glass to plastic or metal channels. Its black color is intended to maintain an OEM appearance. This is a product for its stated automotive application, not a recommendation to use it for household glassware or unrelated plastic parts.

For 08641, 3M instructs users to remove dirt, oil, grease, and moisture from the glass and channel, then dry both thoroughly. The manufacturer directs users to dispense until both components flow evenly, attach the mixing nozzle, purge a small amount through it, apply the adhesive, and assemble within three minutes. At 70°F (21°C), 3M lists typical work time of 5 minutes, handling or clamp time of 1 hour, and cure time of 24 hours. Those figures apply to this product under the stated temperature conditions; they should not be transferred to another adhesive.

“Super glue” describes an adhesive family, not a guarantee of glass-and-plastic compatibility. Loctite’s cited Super Glue Professional page excludes glass and several plastics from the materials it bonds. Conversely, the Loctite Plastics Bonding System is described for PE, PP, and PTFE, but its cited description does not establish that it bonds glass. Check the exact product’s approved substrates rather than inferring suitability from the category or name.

Preparation and safety checks before bonding
- Use only an adhesive whose current instructions cover both surfaces and the repair’s conditions.
- Clean and dry surfaces as directed by the specific manufacturer; do not apply a generic solvent, primer, sanding, clamping, or heat-curing method without confirmation that it is suitable for that plastic and adhesive.
- Do not assume an indoor adhesive is suitable outdoors, or that water resistance makes a bond suitable for food contact.
- For load-bearing, safety-critical, vehicle, food-contact, or outdoor repairs, use a product explicitly rated for that exact application and follow its current technical and safety instructions.
