LINKFIN and COiN are both tiny EDC knives, but they take different approaches: ACTMAX’s LINKFIN uses a sliding-link design with a reported 56.7 mm folded length, while Tiniest Gear’s COiN is a non-locking cutter about 25 mm across. LINKFIN’s creator lists light cutting tasks; COiN adds a bottle opener. Neither is a substitute for a full-size utility knife, and the available figures and COiN details come from secondary reporting rather than independent testing.

How do their size and carry formats differ?

LINKFIN: a very short folding form

New Atlas reports LINKFIN at 56.7 mm (2.23 in) folded and 95.4 mm (3.75 in) extended, with a weight of 26.8 g (0.95 oz). Its titanium body and sliding-link format make it a compact object, but its reported folded length is still more than twice COiN’s approximate diameter. Optional tritium tubes were also reported; the source does not establish that they are included as standard.

COiN: coin-sized

New Atlas describes COiN as about 25 mm (one inch) across, approximately the diameter of a US quarter. It has a keychain hole, so its carry concept is closer to a small accessory than a conventional pocketknife. A coin-like footprint does not by itself establish comfort, accessibility, or legal suitability for carry.

How do the mechanisms handle?

LINKFIN slides open

LINKFIN’s sliding-link construction moves the blade between folded and extended positions. New Atlas reports that the tool cannot be opened one-handed because of its small size. The campaign FAQ calls the blade fixed and says it is not designed to be replaced; that description concerns the blade’s attachment, not a claim that it is a locking folding knife.

COiN uses tension rather than a lock

COiN is reported to use two parts, a dimple clicker, and ball-bearing tension to keep the blade in either its open or closed position. It is non-locking. The mechanism descriptions alone do not establish which knife is safer: safe handling depends on the design, the task, condition, and user technique, and no comparative safety testing is established.

What are the materials and maintenance trade-offs?

LINKFIN combines a reported titanium body with a D2 blade. ACTMAX’s Kickstarter FAQ says the blade can be sharpened but is not designed for replacement. That is a creator statement, not evidence of edge retention or long-term durability.

New Atlas reports COiN in a stainless-steel base configuration, with an upgrade that pairs a titanium body and Damascus blade. The report does not establish comparative sharpening needs, corrosion performance, edge retention, or serviceability for either model. The material names alone are not enough to decide which will perform better in a particular job.

Which tasks are they intended to handle?

LINKFIN is described for light cutting

ACTMAX’s FAQ names opening packages, cutting cardboard, trimming rope, and small home or desk jobs as intended uses. These are creator-listed tasks, not results from an independent performance test. For sustained or demanding cutting, a larger utility knife with a replaceable blade is generally a more practical tool choice.

COiN adds a bottle opener

New Atlas reports that COiN can open bottles as well as provide limited blade use. Its miniature dimensions make it a niche convenience item rather than a general-purpose cutter. The source does not specify cutting capacity or provide test results.

Are tiny knives suitable for travel or everyday carry?

Size does not determine whether a blade is lawful to carry. Rules vary by location and can depend on blade design, intended use, and where it is carried; check the applicable local rules before carrying either knife. New Atlas says COiN’s creators noted that airline carry-on restrictions apply. Travelers should check current airline and airport security rules before packing any knife, rather than relying on its coin-sized form.

For construction work, neither product should be treated as a substitute for a job-appropriate utility knife. The available information describes LINKFIN as intended for light jobs and COiN as a tiny accessory cutter; it does not establish either as suitable for site work, heavy materials, or repeated cutting.

Is COiN the same as the Eclipse coin knife?

No. COiN is Tiniest Gear’s product; Horizon Knives’ Eclipse is a distinct, earlier coin-shaped knife. Kickstarter records the Eclipse campaign as running July 2 through August 26, 2018, raising $194,488 from 2,861 backers. Its campaign description specified a 440C hardened blade, titanium and G10 handle options, and a key loop. Those historical details are context only and should not be attributed to COiN.
