The most useful router-table accessories are the ones that fit your table and suit the work: featherboards for guiding stock, a suitable fence, the right insert ring or plate, guards and supports, and a compatible dust-collection connection. Before buying, identify your table model and check its plate dimensions, router mounting pattern, fence slots or tracks, and dust-port size. Accessories are not universal, and a featherboard is not a substitute for controlling the workpiece.
What accessories do you need for a router table?
Start with the work you do and the accessories your table can actually accept. A basic setup may benefit most from a correctly fitted featherboard, an insert ring that limits the opening around the bit, and effective dust collection. A fence upgrade is worth considering if the existing fence lacks adjustment, support, replaceable faces, or a useful collection port. Guards and other supports should be used only in the configurations allowed by the table manual.
Check the exact table model before ordering. Measure or confirm the mounting plate dimensions and router pattern, the fence slot or track format, and the size and location of dust ports. Also check which parts are included with your table: accessories can vary by model and market.
Which featherboard fits your router table?
A featherboard presses stock toward a fence or table while helping guide it through a cut. The fit depends on how your table accepts accessories: it may use a dedicated slot, a T-track, or a miter channel. Match the featherboard hardware to that feature, and follow its instructions for orientation and adjustment in relation to the feed direction.

Some Bosch tables illustrate why compatibility must be checked model by model. Bosch describes an accessory slot on the RA1181 and RA1171 for featherboards and 3/4-inch accessories; that format is not a universal router-table standard. Use it as an aid, not a restraint
Bosch’s Router Table Operation manual cautions that a featherboard is not intended to hold a workpiece in place by itself while the bit is turning. Maintain control of the stock throughout the cut and follow the setup instructions for your own table and accessory. The manual’s warning is explicit: “Featherboards are an aid in holding the workpiece in position when routing on a router table. They are NOT intended to hold the workpiece in place alone when the workpiece is in contact with the bit, or at any other time when the bit is turning.” Read the Bosch manual.

When is a fence upgrade worthwhile?
Consider a replacement or upgraded fence if you need more adjustment, better stock support, replaceable faces, accessory tracks, or dust collection at the fence. For example, Woodpeckers describes a fence with micro-adjustment, replaceable faces, integrated T-tracks, and dust collection. Those features do not establish fit on every table, so verify the fence mounting arrangement and table dimensions before buying: Woodpeckers Router Table Fence.
Check that the fence faces can be positioned for the bit and workpiece without contacting the rotating bit. Bosch’s manual says: “ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT THE FENCE, FENCE FACINGS, AND GUARD CANNOT COME IN CONTACT WITH THE ROUTER BIT. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE ROUTER TABLE AND CAN CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY.” Use the clearance and setup procedures specified by your table manufacturer.

How do insert rings and replacement plates fit?
An insert ring reduces the opening around the bit when used with a compatible mounting plate. Choose an opening appropriate to the bit and setup, while confirming that the ring locks into the plate as designed. If replacing a plate, check its length, width, thickness, leveling arrangement, and router mounting pattern against both the table and router. A plate that appears close in size may still be incompatible.
Included parts are model-specific. Bosch lists three insert rings with the RA1181; verify the current package contents for the precise model and market rather than assuming the same rings come with another table.

What should you know about guards and curved-work support?
A guard helps shield the bit area during compatible operations. Some tables also include a starter pin and guard, which can support control during certain freehand or curved-routing operations. Bosch lists an adjustable clear guard and starter pin and guard among the RA1181 items, but the permitted setup and operation must come from the manual for the table being used. Do not let the guard or fence contact the rotating bit.

First identify where your table collects dust: through the fence, the cabinet, or both. Then compare the port location and diameter with your hose and any adapter you already own. A collection port is useful only if the connection fits and the hose can be routed without interfering with the work.

Product details illustrate the range rather than define a standard: Bosch lists a 2-1/2-inch hose connection for the RA1181 and two collection ports on the RA1171. Woodpeckers describes dust collection integrated into its fence. Measure and verify the exact connection for your table, fence, and hose before ordering.
How to compare accessories before buying
- Identify the table and router. Find the table model and confirm the router is supported by its mounting plate or mounting pattern.
- Check the attachment point. Match the accessory to the actual slot, track, miter channel, plate, or fence mounting arrangement.
- Match the operation. Confirm the accessory’s adjustment range and support suit the stock size and routing operation.
- Verify dust connections. Compare port location and diameter with the hose or adapter, including whether collection is at the fence, cabinet, or both.
- Confirm package contents and setup. Check the manufacturer’s current listing for included hardware, then use the table manual for assembly, clearances, and permitted operation.
