The available plans establish useful table, cabinet and fence designs, but do not define one verified organizer layout or a complete cut list for this exact project. Treat the dimensions below as examples, then size the table, opening, fence and storage around your router, plate, dust fittings and shop space.
What a complete plan needs to specify
Before cutting material, settle the parts that determine fit and safe operation. A plan should show how the router mounts, how the plate or opening sits level with the tabletop, and how the fence adjusts and locks. It should also identify what the cabinet stores and how dust moves from the fence and enclosure to your collector.
- Mounting: Confirm the router’s mounting pattern and the plate’s dimensions against the router and hardware manuals.
- Insert support: Plan for a plate or opening that is supported and level with the tabletop; verify how its height will be adjusted.
- Fence: Allow for adjustment and locking, with faces that support the workpiece and openings that suit the bits and dust fittings you will use.
- Dust: Decide whether collection will connect at the fence, inside the cabinet, or both. Check port size, hose routing and collector compatibility.
- Organizer: Lay out storage for the tools and accessories you actually own. The cited plans document cabinet storage, but do not establish a particular drawer count, capacity or organizer dimensions for this title.
Plan and product examples to adapt
These examples show different scopes and component choices; their dimensions are not interchangeable defaults for a homemade table.
| Example | Scope and documented details | What to verify before adapting it |
|---|---|---|
| Kreg Precision Router Table System | Kreg specifies a 813 × 609 × 25 mm tabletop and a 298 × 235 × 9.5 mm mounting plate, with quick-release insert rings and integrated dust extraction. | These are specifications for Kreg’s system. Check your router’s mounting pattern and the hardware dimensions rather than treating them as standard sizes. |
| Kreg Precision Benchtop Router Table | Its product page lists a 3/8 × 9 1/4 × 11 3/4 in insert plate, three reducing rings, a fence with independent faces, a bit guard and a dust-collection port. | Those dimensions and components describe this product. Confirm that a chosen plate, router and accessories work together; interchangeability across brands is not established. |
| Oneida universal fence plan | The downloadable plan is described as a 22 in wide fence, adaptable for smaller router tables, intended for a 2.5 in dust port, and supplied with a cut list and assembly instructions. | Confirm the fence width suits your table and that the port and collector arrangement fit your actual shop setup. |
| DIY Montreal router table and cabinet plans | The plan describes a two-part table and cabinet with an adjustable fence, storage and dual-port dust collection. | The available description does not establish a specific organizer arrangement or dimensions for this project. Review the plan details before relying on a cut list or storage layout. |
| Woodgears router-table plans | The plans are described as including an enclosure and parts list. | The available description does not establish organizer dimensions or a particular storage layout. |
| Bosch RA1171 cabinet router table | Bosch describes a cabinet table with storage, fence and cabinet dust ports, and featherboards. | It is a product example rather than a custom-build cut list. Bosch says to check the part number when locating spare parts; check the manual for router and plate fit. |
Size the plate, opening and fence around your hardware
Router plates and mounting patterns are model-dependent. Kreg publishes system-specific plate sizes and insert-ring details; Bosch describes its mounting plate as pre-drilled for a variety of routers, not every router. Before routing a recess or drilling mounting holes, consult the manuals for your router and selected plate, then confirm the actual hardware dimensions.
#1 Best Overall
A fence plan may also depend on dust fittings. Oneida describes its 22 in wide fence plan for a 2.5 in dust port and a high-pressure dust collector. Confirm the connector and collector fit in your shop rather than assuming the port suits a standard hose or your available equipment.
Plan the cabinet and organizer without guessing
Cabinet storage is a documented option in the DIY Montreal plan and Bosch RA1171 product description. That does not establish how many drawers or compartments your build should have. Decide what needs to be within reach—such as bits, rings, wrenches or measuring tools—and allow room for the router, airflow and dust hose. Keep storage clear of moving parts and the router’s ventilation openings.

- BENCHTOP ROUTER TABLE DESIGN: This table router features a large aluminum top for extended work area, durability and precision
- RIGID ALUMINUM MOUNTING PLATE: Pre-Drilled router plate for compatibility with a variety of routers and for above-table height adjustment
- EXTRA TALL ALUMINUM FENCE: This portable router table fence has adjustable faceplates and featherboards to maximize precision and versatility
- DEDICATED STANDARD DUST-COLLECTION PORT: Wood router fits standard 2-1/2 in. vacuum hoses for debris-free operation to help keep your work area clean
- EASY-TO-USE ADJUSTABLE FEATHERBOARDS: For a router table with router, attach to fence and table, providing additional guidance and kickback protection
Make a simple layout drawing with the tabletop footprint, cabinet interior, router position, dust route and storage locations. Check that doors or drawers can open in the available shop space and that stored accessories do not obstruct access to the router or its controls.
Build a dust box only from dimensions matched to its material
Kreg’s dust-box project specifies 5/8 in plywood and 1 1/4 in pocket-hole screws. Its listed panels are:
- Bottom: 13 1/2 × 11 in
- Two sides: 13 1/2 × 10 1/2 in
- Front and back: 12 1/4 × 10 1/2 in
These dimensions belong to that project, not a universal router-table cabinet. Kreg notes that substituting a different plywood thickness requires adjusted dimensions. Recalculate the box before cutting if your stock thickness differs, and confirm its opening and port align with your router and dust fittings.
Assemble and check the design before routing
- Choose the router and plate first. Record the router model, its mounting pattern, and the plate or opening dimensions from the relevant manuals and product specifications.
- Draw the table and cabinet. Set the footprint to your available space, then locate the router, fence, dust connections and storage. Check access for adjustments and maintenance.
- Adapt the cut list to actual stock. Account for material thickness, especially where panels meet or a plate recess is routed. Do not copy a plan’s measurements without checking its material assumptions.
- Dry-fit critical components. Verify that the plate sits level, mounting holes align, the fence travels and locks as intended, and dust hoses connect without blocking cabinet access.
- Review the setup before use. Follow the router, bit, plate and fence manufacturers’ instructions. Kreg’s router-table system page states: “Always route against the rotation direction of the bit!”
When a ready-made table may be simpler
If you need a cabinet, fence and dust ports without designing each interface, the Bosch RA1171 is one documented cabinet-style option with storage, fence and cabinet dust collection, and featherboards. A custom build offers more control over footprint and organizer layout, but it requires you to resolve the router mounting, plate fit, fence geometry and dust connections yourself.
