The procedure differs by refrigerator configuration; do not use one model’s steps on another.
Before you start: identify the model and prepare
Find the model number and consult its user manual before loosening a hinge. Samsung publishes different procedures for French-door, 4-door Flex, and other configurations; connector positions, water tubing, hinge assemblies, and tool requirements can vary. Samsung advises owners of some refrigerator types to use the exact manual or contact an authorized service center. - Identify which door or doors need to come off and follow the matching procedure.
- Empty the refrigerator and unplug it. Disconnect the water supply when applicable, following the model’s directions. Samsung UK gives these precautions for door-reversal work in its door-reversal guidance.
- Protect the floor and prepare a stable, flat surface to set the door down.
- Gather only the tools specified for your model. Samsung’s general guide lists a Phillips screwdriver, flat-head screwdriver, socket spanner, and Allen wrench; some configurations also require pliers or particular Allen wrench sizes.
- Arrange help to hold and move the door. Do not try to support a loose door while handling its wiring or hinge.
Why the exact procedure matters
A French-door refrigerator-door procedure is not interchangeable with a 4-door Flex freezer-door procedure. Before starting, check the manual for the water-tube location, electrical harness and clamp layout, hinge-release method, and required tools. The Dacor/Samsung manual cited here applies specifically to model DRF36C500SR; its instructions should not be generalized to other refrigerators. Samsung’s support guide also warns that door-removal steps vary by model.
Remove an applicable French-door refrigerator door
The following is an overview of Samsung’s guidance, not a substitute for your model’s manual. Use the exact manual for the prescribed motions, order, and tool sizes.

- Close the doors and remove the top cover. Follow the model manual’s instructions for removing the cover and exposing the hinges.
- Disconnect the specified connections. On the applicable left door, disconnect the electrical connectors and water tube as instructed. Connector locations may differ; handle couplers gently and do not pull on wires. The right door may not have a water tube.
- Release the hinge clamp. Use the prescribed motion and do not force it.
- Open and support the door as directed. Where the manual calls for it, open the door to about 90 degrees. Keep it supported while removing the top hinge, taking care not to damage connector wires.
- Lift the door away. Lift vertically as directed, without forcing it, and set it on the prepared flat, protected surface.
- Remove any other door separately. In the cited instructions, Samsung says not to remove both doors at the same time. Follow your own model’s sequence.
Samsung cautions: “The door may fall off or fall over and cause damage during any of these steps. To prevent an accident, use extreme caution when performing these steps.” Read the full Samsung instructions before releasing the hinge.
4-door Flex freezer doors use a different method
Do not apply the French-door sequence to a 4-door Flex freezer door. Samsung’s guide describes disconnecting the wiring, supporting the door, depressing the hinge shaft with the specified tool, tilting the door, and lifting it away. Use the matching manual for the exact tool and movements.

Reinstall the door and check the connections
Reinstall in reverse order only where the model manual directs. Align the door and hinges, reconnect the electrical harnesses, and replace the clamps as specified. If the door has water tubing, reconnect the matching hoses fully; a loose connection can cause dispenser leaks. Samsung also advises ensuring electrical connectors are properly connected before reattaching or operating the refrigerator. Check the water connection for leaks and confirm normal operation before returning the appliance to regular use. See Samsung’s installation and connection guidance.

Stop if you cannot identify the correct model procedure, cannot safely support the door, or encounter a connector, coupler, or hinge that does not release as described. Do not force parts or improvise a wiring or water-line disconnection. Consult the model manual or contact an authorized service center, as Samsung recommends for some refrigerator types.
