Samsung says manual defrost takes about 2 hours for the direct-cool refrigerator procedure described in its guidance. That estimate is not a verified runtime for electronic “Force Defrost” (often displayed as “Fd”): the available Samsung sources do not establish one duration for that service mode across refrigerator models. Check the manual for your exact model before starting a service-mode procedure.
What Samsung’s two-hour estimate covers
Samsung India’s estimate applies to manual defrosting on a direct-cool refrigerator. In the procedure described, a button in the freezer compartment stays pressed while defrosting is underway. When the process finishes, the button returns to its normal position and the refrigerator restarts automatically. Samsung’s guidance is specific to that procedure; it does not establish two hours as a standard duration for every Samsung refrigerator or every kind of defrost.

Why electronic “Fd” mode has no verified universal runtime
Electronic Force Defrost is a service or diagnostic operation used on some model families. A Samsung-hosted technical sheet describes an “Fd” indication and a procedure for a particular bottom-mount refrigerator, but does not give a general runtime. Its procedure should not be applied to other models without the relevant instructions.
Because the title does not identify a model, there is no reliable single time to give for electronic Fd mode. Consult the manual for your refrigerator’s complete model code rather than assuming the direct-cool manual-defrost estimate applies.

How to find the right instructions
- Find the complete model code. Check the appliance label; use the full code, not just the refrigerator’s product family or brand.
- Open Samsung’s support page for your model. Search by the model code and select the matching manual: Samsung product manuals and downloads.
- Follow only the procedure documented for that model. Do not try a button combination or enter service mode based on instructions for another Samsung refrigerator.
What to do if manual defrost does not finish normally
For the direct-cool procedure described by Samsung India, the completion cues are that the defrost button returns to its normal position and the refrigerator restarts automatically. If the ice has melted but the button remains pressed, Samsung recommends contacting a service center. If frost keeps returning or an electronic Fd cycle does not resolve the issue, service is a troubleshooting option—not a guaranteed fix.
