Are 1A–4A figure grades standardized?

What to consider when choosing a board
Because figure varies within and between boards, evaluate the specific piece rather than assuming every board with the same species or grade will look alike. Useful details to compare include:
- How long and bold the stripes appear, and whether their spacing is consistent across the usable area.
- The seller’s stated species, separately from any figure description.
- Board dimensions and the area available for your project.
- Clear photographs of the actual board, with lighting that makes its pattern visible.
