Do lavender or other plants repel cabbage worms?

Cover plants before butterflies can lay eggs
Floating row cover or insect netting acts as a physical barrier between adult butterflies and brassicas. Delaware Extension says brassicas do not require insect pollination to produce a crop, so a properly managed cover can remain in place through harvest. How to choose an approach
- Before butterflies reach the crop: use a secured row cover or insect netting for preventive exclusion.
- When eggs or caterpillars are already present: inspect the plants and hand-pick pests; do not seal them under a cover.
- If you want to try companion herbs: regard them as an unproven addition, not a substitute for a barrier or regular checks.
