Turn the dryer off, unplug it, let the drum cool, then gently wipe the bars with a soft cloth and mild soap and dry them thoroughly. The bars’ position varies by model, so check your manual if you cannot find them.
Where to find the moisture sensor bars
Samsung describes the Sensor Dry bars as two curved metal bars inside the drum, near the lint filter housing or beside it. Their exact placement can vary by dryer model. If you do not see them in that area, use the manual for your specific model rather than probing around the drum.
Sensor Dry uses the bars to detect whether moisture remains in the clothes. Residue—particularly buildup associated with frequent dryer-sheet use—can coat the bars and interfere with detection. The dryer may then act as if clothes are dry and stop while they are still damp. Samsung US explains the sensor and cleaning method.
How to clean the sensor safely
- Switch off and unplug the dryer. If it has been running, wait until the drum has cooled. Samsung Canada advises these precautions in its dryer maintenance guidance.
- Open the door and locate the bars. Look inside the drum near the lint filter housing or beside it for two curved metal bars.
- Wipe them gently. Use a soft cloth dampened with warm water and a small amount of mild soap. Do not pour water into the drum.
- Remove soap and residue, then dry the bars. Wipe them with a clean, dry cloth until thoroughly dry before using the dryer.
Abrasive cleaners, metal tools, and excessive water can damage the dryer; Samsung’s guidance calls for gentle wiping instead. An ordinary soft cloth is sufficient—no specialty sensor cleaner is needed.

If clothes are still damp after cleaning
Sensor residue is only one possible cause. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance identifies load and airflow issues that can also affect drying. Use the checks below to narrow down what to try next. Samsung’s troubleshooting page for clothes that are not dry provides model-specific guidance.
The cycle ends early, but the load is small
A small load may not brush against the bars enough for reliable sensing. Try a suitable load size for the cycle, following the limits and recommendations in your dryer’s manual.

The load mixes lightweight and heavy items
Lighter fabrics may reach the bars and dry before heavier pieces do, so the cycle can end while thick items remain damp. Samsung describes Damp Alert as a way to signal when lighter items are dry; some older models call this feature Mixed Load Bell. Check your manual to see whether your model has it and how to use it.
The dryer takes too long to dry
Check that the lint filter is clean and that airflow is not obstructed. If the problem continues after checking the filter and airflow, follow Samsung’s troubleshooting and service guidance for your exact model rather than repeatedly cleaning the sensor.
