Clean your Samsung dryer’s lint filter before or after every load. Open the door, remove the filter, clear lint from the filter and its compartment, then reinstall it before running the dryer. Samsung recommends cleaning before a cycle if you only clean once. Never operate the dryer with a missing, broken, or damaged filter.
How to clean the lint filter
- Stop the dryer and open the door. As a cautious general practice, switch it off and let the drum cool. Samsung Canada also advises unplugging the dryer before cleaning; follow your model’s manual for its specific directions.
- Remove the filter. Samsung’s U.S. guide places it inside the drum, but location and construction can vary by model.
- Clear away lint. Remove lint from the filter by hand, then check the filter slot or compartment. Samsung says a pipe cleaner can help clear lint from the compartment; use it gently so you do not damage the filter.
- Wash only if appropriate for your model. If lint or residue remains, Samsung Canada permits rinsing the filter and gently scrubbing it with a soft brush. Check your model’s manual before washing or separating filter parts, and let a washed filter dry completely.
- Reinstall the filter. Make sure it is correctly seated before closing the door and operating the dryer. Do not run the dryer without its filter or with a damaged filter.
How often should you clean it?
Samsung U.S. Support advises cleaning the lint filter before or after every load to help prevent fire risk. It recommends cleaning before the cycle if you clean only once; cleaning both before and after leaves less lint for the dryer to handle. Samsung’s guidance says: “To prevent fire risk, be sure to clean the lint filter before or after every load.” Read Samsung’s U.S. dryer-cleaning guidance.
A Samsung-hosted Laundry Combo manual also calls for cleaning its lint filter after every dry cycle and warns that neglect can impair drying performance and affect drying time. Its dual-filter procedure applies to that Laundry Combo product, not necessarily to other Samsung dryers. Consult the Laundry Combo manual.
What to do about the filter reminder
On U.S. models covered by Samsung’s support guidance, the filter reminder icon appears after every load as a prompt to clean the filter. If it remains on after cleaning, check that the filter is installed correctly, then consult the manual or Samsung Support for your exact model. The reminder alone does not establish one universal cause for a persistent alert. See Samsung’s explanation of dryer icons.

When to replace the filter
Do not use a broken or damaged lint filter. Samsung’s U.S. guidance directs owners who need a replacement to Samsungparts.com. Identify your dryer’s exact model and confirm the replacement is compatible before ordering; filter designs vary. Samsung’s cleaning guide includes its replacement referral.
Lint filter cleaning is not vent cleaning
The lint filter is a routine after-each-load task. The exhaust vent is a separate part of the dryer system and needs occasional maintenance: Samsung U.S. recommends cleaning it once or twice a year and recommends professional cleaning. Samsung Canada advises inspecting the vent at least yearly and also recommends professional cleaning. If you are considering the more involved ductwork work, use the guidance for your region and model rather than treating it as part of ordinary filter cleaning.

If Sensor Dry cycles end too early, Samsung says residue on the moisture-sensor bars can be a separate issue. Its U.S. guidance recommends wiping the bars with a soft cloth and mild soap, then drying them. This is distinct from cleaning the lint filter. See Samsung’s instructions for vents and sensor bars.
