Look up the exact model’s manual before trying a reset, interpreting a code or ordering a part. For common problems, begin with safe, visible checks; leave internal electrical tests and component repairs to a qualified technician.
Find the right manual before troubleshooting
Kenmore’s owners’ resources let you look up manuals and product information by model number. Record the complete model number from the appliance label, then use the matching manual for control instructions, cleaning guidance and compatible parts. A procedure for one Elite dishwasher may not apply to another.
If a code or blinking pattern appears, record it exactly and consult the manual for that model. There is no single error-code chart or reset sequence established for every Kenmore Elite dishwasher.
Dishwasher will not start
- Check that the door is fully closed and latched.
- Confirm that you selected a cycle using the controls described in your model’s manual.
- Check that the appliance has power. Do not remove panels or probe wiring to investigate an electrical problem.
If these basic checks do not resolve the problem, or a code persists, use the model-specific manual or arrange service through Kenmore customer care.

Water remains in the dishwasher or it will not drain
Check the cycle and accessible drain path
A Kenmore Elite 14743 owner-manual example recommends confirming that the cycle ended, checking the drain hose for kinks, and looking for food obstructions in the drain or disposer. If the dishwasher was recently connected to a disposer, that manual also says to check that the disposer inlet knockout plug was removed. These are model- and installation-specific checks; follow your own manual.
A Kenmore Elite 2013 Stainless Steel Tall Tub service manual notes that about 2.4 cm (one inch) of water in the filter-cup hole after a cycle is normal for the design it covers. That detail does not establish what is normal for every Elite model, so compare what you see with your manual rather than treating every trace of water as a fault.

Do not replace a pump or control based on the symptom alone
Standing water can have more than one cause. Repair Clinic’s general Kenmore dishwasher drain guide lists possibilities such as a clogged sump filter or a fault in the drain path or pump; it is not a diagnosis for a particular Elite model. Verify the full model number and obtain a model-specific diagnosis before buying a part.
The 2013 tall-tub service manual directs technicians to check drain-related causes and warns against replacing the control when evidence points to a mechanical rather than electrical problem. Its diagnostic material is for service technicians, not a homeowner test procedure.

Poor wash: dishes are still dirty
For the 2013 tall-tub design covered by its service manual, poor washing troubleshooting includes checking for items that block spray, inspecting filter screens and spray-arm nozzles, confirming the spray arms can move, and verifying that the filters are properly installed. These checks are not a universal disassembly procedure.
- Load dishes so they do not obstruct spray-arm movement or block one another from the spray.
- Inspect accessible filters and spray-arm openings, and clean them only as your model’s owner manual directs.
- Check that the selected cycle suits the load and soil level.
If the arms do not move freely after the load is corrected, or you suspect a motor, sensor or electrical fault, arrange model-specific service rather than opening the appliance.

Film or spots on glasses and dishes
The 2013 tall-tub service manual associates film or spots with factors including rinse-aid use, hard water, detergent carryover or oversudsing, and—on some models—water-softener issues. Check your manual for the rinse-aid and detergent guidance that applies to your dishwasher, and consider whether your local water is hard. Do not assume a softener setting or adjustment exists on every Elite model.
Dishwasher not drying
For the models covered by the 2013 tall-tub service manual, troubleshooting points include rinse aid and the heated-dry setting. Check whether your model has that setting and follow its manual’s instructions; control labels and options vary across the Elite range.

Safety: when to stop and call for service
The Kenmore Elite 2013 Stainless Steel Tall Tub service manual states: “Disconnect power before servicing. Failure to do so can result in death or electrical shock.” It also labels its diagnostic procedures “For Service Technician Use Only.” Treat internal wiring tests, control-board diagnosis, pump replacement and work beneath the appliance as technician-level service—not routine troubleshooting.
