Compare the exact model, check its warranty, and confirm qualified repair service is available where you live.
What the evidence says about Samsung appliances
There is no single measure of whether an appliance brand is “good.” Reliability, owner satisfaction, and service experience answer different questions. The available U.S. studies give Samsung some favorable results, but they do not establish that every Samsung appliance—or any one model—will perform well over its lifetime.
J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Appliance Reliability & Service Study measured reported problems among major appliances purchased one to three years earlier. Samsung ranked second for front-load washer reliability, with 84 reported problems per 100 appliances (PP100). That is a short-term reported problem rate, not a lifetime failure rate. The study collected 12,755 reliability responses and 1,419 service responses through online interviews in June and July 2025.
In the same study, Samsung ranked second for appliance service experience, scoring 768 out of 1,000. That result describes surveyed customers whose in-home technician visit was coordinated by the appliance brand; it does not establish local technician coverage, repair wait times, or parts availability.

How Samsung ranks by appliance category
J.D. Power’s 2026 U.S. Appliance Satisfaction Study placed Samsung at or near the top in several categories. These are satisfaction scores on a 1,000-point scale—not reliability or durability ratings.

These scores help describe how owners rated products in their segments, but they should not be read as evidence that a category has fewer breakdowns. Nor should satisfaction scores be compared numerically with PP100 reliability results: the metrics measure different things.

Are Samsung refrigerators reliable?
Refrigerators call for more caution than Samsung’s broad satisfaction results alone might suggest. Consumer Reports’ 2026 refrigerator analysis says some Samsung French-door refrigerators receive poor predicted-reliability and owner-satisfaction ratings. It also notes past consumer complaints involving ice makers and temperatures. This is a warning to check the individual model and configuration, not proof that every Samsung refrigerator has those problems.
Consumer Reports says its latest refrigerator survey covered 85,290 refrigerators with icemakers purchased new from 2016 through 2026. It identifies icemakers and water-and-ice dispensers as common problem areas across refrigerators. Its September 2026 article estimates that 30 percent of refrigerators with icemakers are expected to have a problem by year five; that is an all-brand figure, not a Samsung-specific rate.

For kitchen appliances more broadly, Consumer Reports’ 2026 reliability analysis draws on member-reported experience for 252,640 new appliances bought between 2015 and 2025. Its public comparison identifies Samsung among the brands assessed but does not provide a numerical overall Samsung score in the available excerpt. That evidence does not support assigning Samsung a precise overall Consumer Reports rank.
What the results mean for washers, cooking appliances, and dishwashers
Front-load washers
The strongest specific reliability result in these studies is Samsung’s second-place finish for front-load washers in J.D. Power’s 2025 study. The 84 PP100 result is useful as a category-level signal for relatively recent ownership, not a prediction for a particular Samsung washer or a guarantee of long-term dependability.

Cooking appliances and dishwashers
Samsung’s 2026 J.D. Power satisfaction placements for over-the-range microwaves, cooktops, wall ovens, and dishwashers are favorable within their respective categories. Since those results measure satisfaction rather than reliability, use them alongside model-specific reliability information and the practical service checks below.

Samsung’s U.S. warranty information says most home appliances include a one-year manufacturer’s warranty covering parts and labor for qualifying defects in materials or workmanship under normal household use. Terms can vary by model, component, purchase date, and promotion, so read the warranty for the exact appliance and confirm what is excluded. Samsung’s support page describes repair services, but an advertised service offering does not establish that a qualified technician or parts will be available promptly in every location.

Before committing to a large appliance, check whether qualified local service is available and ask how parts access and repair appointments work. A brand-level service score cannot answer those location-specific questions. This check is especially practical for an appliance whose failure would be disruptive.
How to decide whether a Samsung appliance is right for you
- Start with the category. Treat the front-load washer reliability result, the satisfaction rankings, and the refrigerator caution as separate evidence—not as one brand-wide verdict.
- Compare the exact model and configuration. Look for independent reliability information and owner feedback that applies to the model you are considering. A category result or brand average does not establish the performance of a specific unit.
- Check the warranty terms. Verify coverage, duration, exclusions, and any component-specific terms for the precise model and purchase.
- Confirm local repair options. Check qualified service coverage and parts access in your area rather than assuming a national score applies locally.
- Compare the full purchase cost. Include delivery, installation, and removal when comparing alternatives.
Verdict
Samsung can be a reasonable appliance choice, especially when the specific model has favorable independent evidence and local service is practical. The washer reliability result and several satisfaction placements are positives, but satisfaction is not durability evidence, and some Samsung French-door refrigerators have concerning Consumer Reports ratings. Buy by category and exact model, not by brand reputation or awards alone.
