Travis Barker’s Calabasas home is a one-story residence shaped around warm materials, personal art, and an easy connection to the backyard. In Architectural Digest’s May 2022 tour, Barker described the house as “just under 10,000 square feet.” Designer Waldo Fernandez refreshed its rooms with a quieter sensibility than the rock-star stereotype suggests.
Which Calabasas home did Architectural Digest tour?
The home featured here is Barker’s longtime, understated Calabasas residence, shown in Architectural Digest’s May 2022 tour. Barker said in the tour that the one-story house was “just under 10,000 square feet” and that he had owned it for “about 16 years.” Those are his approximate statements in 2022, not a current property-record check. Watch the Architectural Digest home tour.
Architectural Digest’s profile described Barker as having owned the residence for 15 years when he chose to refresh it. The profile also says the design process began about three years before publication. These contemporaneous descriptions are approximate, rather than evidence of a different property.
How did Waldo Fernandez shape the interiors?
Barker credited Kris Jenner with suggesting he contact designer Waldo Fernandez. Fernandez’s approach centered on subdued colors, linen-covered upholstery, warm wood, and patina, with custom furnishings drawing on midcentury classics. The result is a home whose materials and textures do more of the work than bold, theatrical finishes.

Fernandez explained the intention this way: “Travis wasn’t looking for a major statement or any kind of caricatured rock-star style.” Barker said of the designer’s work: “I loved the simplicity and zen quality of his work. We connected immediately.” In the tour, Barker described the mood: “The vibe of this room and my house really was just zen.” These are the speakers’ impressions of the design, not an objective measure of the home.
What makes the living room feel connected to the outdoors?
Barker said Fernandez removed a wall with windows in the living room and replaced it with doors that open toward the pool and backyard. That change makes the outdoor area part of the room’s outlook and circulation, rather than a separate destination reached only through a windowed wall. It is the clearest architectural move in the tour: a more open threshold between the interior and the landscape.

Which details give the house its personality?
Art with personal history
The home includes work by Raymond Pettibon and an Andy Warhol diamond-dust Dracula print in the entry. Barker recalled seeing the Warhol in a New York gallery when he was around 19 or 20. He wanted it because the diamond dust reminded him of skateboard grip tape, linking a gallery piece to an interest that had shaped his own visual world.
Rooms for everyday use
The Architectural Digest photo gallery shows a concrete ping-pong table in the game room and a primary-bath tub clad in silver travertine. In the kitchen, the gallery identifies Wolf wall ovens and range, a paneled Sub-Zero refrigerator, and a Miele built-in coffee maker. These are documented features of the photographed home, not a budget specification for recreating it.

At the time of the interview, Barker said Kourtney Kardashian had a house a block away and that he planned to turn his home studio into a bunk room so her children would be comfortable. That is historical context from May 2022, not a description of current living arrangements.
Is this the Calabasas mansion reported for rent in 2023?
No. Architectural Digest’s September 2023 rental story concerned a separate Mediterranean-style property, reported as about 7,200 square feet with six bedrooms and six-and-a-half bathrooms, and listed at $25,000 per month at that time. The report distinguished it from Barker’s longtime primary home—the understated, Fernandez-designed residence featured in the 2022 tour. The rental figures are historical listing details, not current market information or specifications for the toured home. Read Architectural Digest’s 2023 rental report.

The most transferable lesson is to build atmosphere from material, proportion, and light rather than trying to copy a celebrity home item for item. For a similar natural-wood accent, Architectural Digest’s tour page suggests a live-edge wood coffee table; it is an inspiration, not a verified piece from Barker’s residence. The same page offers an electric kettle for a matcha station and a concrete candle as other style-adjacent ideas. Those recommendations do not establish current stock or availability.
- Use a restrained palette, then introduce variation through wood grain, linen, and aged finishes.
- Where the layout and site allow, consider doors or openings that make the backyard a natural extension of a main living space.
- Choose art and objects for personal meaning; the entry’s Warhol and the home’s Pettibon works show how individual interests can coexist with a calm room.
