Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Montecito estate was reported to have sold off-market in June 2020 for $14.65 million. Coverage at the time described a gated, landscaped property with a roughly 14,500-square-foot main house, a separate guesthouse and extensive leisure facilities. Those details come from 2020 transaction and listing reports; they are not a current inspection or confirmation of the home’s present condition.

What was reported about the purchase?

The Los Angeles Times reported that the property closed in an off-market sale in June 2020 for $14.65 million. The newspaper said tax records for a seven-acre property matched limited liability companies previously created by Meghan Markle; that is the Times’ account of the records, not an independently verified title search here.

The estate had previously been listed for as much as $34 million, according to the Times. The Irish Times reported an earlier asking price of up to $34.5 million, followed by a 2020 relisting at $16.975 million; it said the final sale was $2.325 million below that relisted asking price. Asking prices and a completed transaction are different measures.

How large is the estate, and what is the house like?

The Los Angeles Times described the main house as approximately 14,500 square feet and built in 2003, on seven acres in Montecito, Santa Barbara County. The Irish Times reported 7.4 acres. These are differing published figures, not a precise surveyed acreage established here.

Reported descriptions portray a gated, hedged property approached by a winding stone-paved drive. The Times described a living room with coffered ceilings and a billiards or game room. Neither the acreage nor the architectural descriptions establish the property’s current condition or any subsequent renovations.

What features were reported inside and around the home?

The 2020 reports attributed a broad mix of living, guest and recreation spaces to the estate. The Los Angeles Times distinguished nine bedrooms in the main house and described a separate two-bedroom guesthouse. The Irish Times reported nine bedrooms and 16 bathrooms for the home, so its count should not be treated as an identical breakdown of the main house and guesthouse.

Area Features described in 2020 coverage
Main house Bedrooms, coffered-ceiling living room, billiards or game room, library, office, theater, gym, elevator and wine cellar. The Irish Times relayed listing details that also included a five-car garage.
Guest and wellness spaces A separate two-bedroom guesthouse and a tea house; spa facilities, including dry and wet saunas in listing details reported by The Irish Times.
Grounds and recreation Tennis court, swimming pool and custom jungle gym. The Irish Times’ listing account also mentioned rose gardens, cypress, lavender and olive trees.

The feature lists reflect descriptions reported by the Times and listing copy relayed by The Irish Times—not an inspection or verified inventory of what remains on site today.

What do later reports say about its value or a possible sale?

In an August 21, 2026 report, realestate.com.au cited a Realtor.com automated estimate of $23.4 million. That figure is a model estimate reported at that time, not an appraisal or a sale price. The article noted that automated estimates may not capture private improvements or a celebrity premium.

Forensic real estate appraiser Orell Anderson, president of Strategic Property Analytics, Inc., told the outlet, “At this end of the market, I’d start with the land, not the house,” and, “The house can be changed. The land cannot.” He emphasized factors such as land, privacy, views and access; the report did not establish a supported appraisal of the property at a higher figure.

August 2026 coverage also discussed a possible future sale, but did not verify a listing or transaction. A realestate.com.au report dated August 20 relayed speculation about sale discussions and off-market possibilities. Its August 21 report said sources indicated the couple had no current plan to sell. The accounts differ, and neither confirms a sale.
