If your Samsung washer door is locked, don’t force it. The lock commonly stays engaged while a cycle is running, water remains in the drum, the drum or door is hot, or Child Lock is active. Let the washer finish and try the model-appropriate checks below; if it still will not release, request service from Samsung.
Start with the safe checks
- Let the cycle end. Check the remaining time and whether the water has drained. After the cycle finishes, wait briefly for the latch to disengage. If the washer is off, turn it on and wait for its unlock response. A paused cycle may need time to respond, especially if water has already entered. See Samsung’s guidance for a locked washer door.
- Check for Child Lock. On some front-load models, Child Lock can prevent the door from opening. The control combination varies by model, so use the panel markings or the user manual for your washer. Restarting the machine may not turn Child Lock off. Samsung explains the feature and model-dependent controls in its Child Lock support guidance.
- Allow a hot washer to cool. A door or drum that remains hot after a hot wash—or a drying cycle on a washer-dryer—may remain locked for safety. Wait for it to cool and follow the instructions for your model. Do not try to pry it open.
If water is still inside, check whether your model can be emergency-drained
For applicable front-load washers, an emergency drain can remove water that is keeping the door locked. First identify the model number and consult its manual: drain access and hardware differ, and some older front-load models do not have an emergency drain hose or pump filter. Samsung’s emergency-draining instructions are model-specific in practice, so do not assume your washer has the parts shown.
- Turn the washer off and unplug it.
- Place towels and shallow containers near the lower filter cover to catch water.
- If your model has an emergency drain tube, slowly pull it out while holding its cap. Drain the water into a container, emptying it as needed.
- After the water has fully drained, follow your model’s restart and unlocking instructions.
Stop if you cannot identify the correct drain parts or access them safely. Do not remove parts or improvise a drain procedure.
When to stop troubleshooting
If the cycle has ended, the washer has cooled, Child Lock is not the cause, and any safely accessible water has been drained—but the door still will not release—request service from Samsung. Its support page says: “If the door still won’t unlock, please visit the Support Center to request service.” Use the Samsung Support Center guidance for the next step. Never force the door; a locked door can be a safety response rather than a failed latch.
