Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →On many electric cooktops, you start by unlocking the controls if needed, turning on the hob, selecting a cooking zone, and setting its heat with the marked touch keys or slider. Controls and timer behavior differ by model, so use your appliance manual for the exact buttons. When you finish, switch the zone off at its control and treat any residual-heat warning as a sign that the surface may still be hot.
Find the instructions for your exact cooktop
“Touch screen” often means a flat touch-control panel rather than a display you navigate like a phone. Layouts and gestures are not universal. For example, GE says its Glide Touch system is used on select radiant and induction cooktops and ranges; Gorenje manuals describe different controls and sequences. GE’s guidance therefore does not automatically apply to every electric stove.
Look for the brand and model on the appliance label or in its paperwork, then find the matching manual or manufacturer support page. If the manual’s instructions differ from the general steps below, follow the manual.
Start a cooking zone and set its heat
- Unlock the controls if necessary. A lock symbol or an “L” may indicate that the panel is locked. The cited Gorenje examples use a press-and-hold gesture of about three seconds, but the control to hold varies by model. Use your manual’s specific unlock sequence rather than assuming the power key is the right one.
- Turn on the cooktop. Touch the marked power or on/off control shown in the manual. Some models may require you to act promptly after switching on; check the instructions for your appliance.
- Select a cooking zone. Touch the zone marker that corresponds to the area where your pan is placed. The selected zone may be shown by a light or display indicator.
- Set the heat. Use the displayed level, plus/minus keys, or slider as marked. On select GE Glide systems, GE describes swiping around an arc, tapping within the arc, or using plus/minus adjustments. A Gorenje manual describes selecting a zone and changing its level with plus/minus controls. These are examples, not universal gestures.
- Adjust or stop heating. Change the selected zone’s setting as needed. When you finish, use that zone’s control to turn it off, following the manual’s directions.
Understand the timer, lock, and heat indicators
Timer: reminder or automatic shutoff?
A minute minder may sound an alarm when time expires without turning off a cooking zone. A zone off-timer, by contrast, may switch off the selected zone when its time runs out. Check the timer description in your manual before relying on it to stop heating; the word “timer” alone does not tell you which function your cooktop has.

Lock: a control-panel status
A lock symbol or “L” can mean the touch controls are locked. The unlock gesture depends on the model, even among examples that use a press-and-hold action. Use the exact control and sequence in your appliance’s manual.
Residual heat: the surface may still be hot
A residual-heat indicator warns that a cooking area remains hot after it is switched off. In one cited Gorenje manual, “H” indicates a hot zone; it also warns that a zone may still be hot even after the indicator disappears in some circumstances. Do not touch the cooking surface until it has cooled.
