Hillarys Beach Club is no longer a construction site: its builder lists the two-level project as completed in 2023, and the venue’s official website presents it as an operating dining and events destination. The “new pictures” and build progress covered by PerthNow were part of a report published on 13 March 2023, when construction was under way at Pinnaroo Point.
What the 2023 pictures showed
PerthNow’s Christopher Tan reported on 13 March 2023 that work was under way on a two-storey beach club at Pinnaroo Point. The article published new artist impressions and aerial photographs of the project. Its images documented a development in progress and illustrated the proposed design; they were not a current construction update.
The plan described in the report brought several hospitality uses together: a grab-and-go kiosk, a sit-down restaurant, a large function area and a gastro pub. A wind-shielding terrace was intended to make outdoor dining more usable throughout the year. The proposed interiors also differed by level: the lower floor was described with pastels, creams and golds, while the upstairs spaces were to use deeper colours and richer textures. These were design intentions reported in 2023, not a guarantee of the venue’s present fit-out.
Scale, team and the project timeline
PerthNow reported a planned area of about 1,400 square metres and a proposed licensed capacity of 500 people. Both figures describe the proposal as reported in 2023; they should not be read as a current measured area or confirmation of the venue’s present licensed capacity.

Why the proposed sublease drew objections
PerthNow reported that nearly a dozen public submissions objected to the proposed sublease. The concerns it described included possible effects on Bush Forever land, local flora and fauna, access for windsurfers and other beach users, erosion and antisocial behaviour.
The same report said city officers responded that the lease site was already cleared, was sufficiently distant from nearby bushland and was away from existing beach-access paths. Officers also said greater activity could improve casual surveillance. These are the objections and responses as reported by PerthNow, not independently established environmental or safety findings.
