The design turns small pieces of attractive wood into a desk clock. WOOD Magazine highlights the use of exotic or figured scraps, making this a possible project for suitable leftover stock. The PDF covers preparing the body and other pieces, shaping details, and making the opening for the clock movement. It calls for accurate shaping, routing, sanding, and drilling.
Check the clock movement before drilling
The PDF describes a “drop-in clock movement” and specifies a 3⅛-inch opening. Treat that measurement as a requirement to verify against the movement you intend to use, not as a promise that any clock mechanism will fit. Confirm the movement’s body dimensions and shaft requirements, then compare them with the plan and the clock face before making the bore.

A 3⅛-inch Forstner bit may be relevant to making the specified opening, but confirm the plan’s instructions and your setup before choosing a bit. The PDF, rather than the plan-page summary, is the place to check the construction details and sequence.
Distinguish the free download from the store listing
WOOD Store also lists an “Art Deco Desk Clock Woodworking Plan.” That separate listing identifies WOOD Issue 187, November 2008, and shows an update date of January 16, 2024.
