On many front-load models, you pull the drawer out to its stop and press its release points or hold its release lever while pulling. On many top-load models, you pull the drawer out and tilt it upward. Drawer designs vary, so check your washer’s manual if the release does not match—never force it.
Before removing the detergent drawer
Samsung washers do not all use the same dispenser. Front-load models typically have a drawer at the front of the machine; top-load models may have a dispenser beneath the lid. The release mechanism and removable inserts also vary. Samsung’s model-specific guidance notes that removal instructions depend on the washer.
- Identify your washer type and whether the dispenser is a standard drawer or an auto dispenser.
- If the release points are unclear, look up the full model number in the user manual before pulling harder.
- For the auto-dispenser cleaning procedure described by Samsung UK, turn off and unplug the washer before cleaning. Follow your own model’s instructions for other procedures.
How to remove a front-load Samsung washer drawer
Standard drawer
- Pull the drawer open until it stops.
- Find the drawer’s release points. Samsung’s general instructions describe pressing both sides of the drawer at the same time while pulling it out. See Samsung US’s washer-cleaning guidance.
- When the drawer releases, slide it out straight without twisting or forcing it.
Auto dispenser
Some auto dispensers use an internal release lever rather than the two-sided release described for standard drawers. For the design in its instructions, Samsung UK says to hold the lever inside the drawer down while pulling the drawer out. If your drawer has no such lever, do not assume another part is a release; consult the manual for your model.
How to remove a top-load Samsung washer drawer
- Open the washer as needed to reach the dispenser.
- Pull the drawer out until it stops.
- Tilt the drawer upward and lift it out. This is the common method in Samsung’s top-load cleaning instructions; use the manual if your dispenser is shaped differently.
How to clean the drawer and its recess
Wash removable parts gently
Take out only inserts or compartment parts that are designed to be removed. Rinse removable parts with warm water and use a soft brush to loosen detergent or softener residue, as described in Samsung’s general cleaning instructions. Put inserts back in their original positions.

Clean the recess according to the dispenser design
For standard drawers, wipe the recess with a soft cloth or use a nonmetallic brush if the model instructions allow it. Samsung UK’s auto-dispenser procedure mentions a bottle brush for residue and limescale in that design’s recess; do not assume every model permits the same tool or method.
For the auto-dispenser design covered by Samsung UK, do not brush or use another tool on the specifically identified drawer part, do not spray water into the recess, and let the recess dry before putting the drawer back. Samsung warns: “Do not spray water into the detergent drawer recess as it may cause electric shock or fire.” Follow your washer’s manual if its instructions differ.

Reinsert the drawer
Align the drawer with its guides and push it fully back in. Refit removable components in their original positions and follow any model-specific instructions. If the drawer will not slide into place, remove it and check alignment rather than pushing harder.
If the drawer will not release or has hardened buildup
The drawer will not come out
Stop pulling and confirm the release method for your full model number. Front-load drawers may use side release points or an internal lever; top-load drawers commonly tilt upward after being pulled out. Samsung notes that removal varies by model, so forcing a mismatched mechanism risks damage.

Hardened detergent in a compatible auto dispenser
For the auto-dispenser models covered by Samsung UK’s procedure, add lukewarm water inside the dispenser to soften hardened detergent, then clean the interior and rear valve as directed. Do not spray water into the recess.
The drawer does not drain properly
Samsung’s detergent-use guidance identifies residue and an incorrectly seated rinse cap as possible causes of dispenser problems. Check and clean only the parts your model’s instructions identify; the symptom alone does not establish which part is at fault.

Why the exact model matters
Samsung’s support pages show more than one front-load release design, a different common removal motion for top-load drawers, and additional restrictions for some auto dispensers. Use the general steps only when your drawer matches the described design. For other models, the full model number and user manual are the reliable way to confirm the release, removable inserts, and cleaning limits.
