Samsung’s Self Repair Assistant app is no longer just a rumor: Samsung has released it through the Galaxy Store in some markets. Its documented job is narrower than its name suggests. It helps users calibrate or reset certain replacement components after a repair; it does not provide a universal repair guide, parts, or a way to fix physical damage. Availability and functions depend on the country and exact phone model.
How the 2022 rumor became a real app
The November 2022 report was based on a Samsung trademark application filed November 23, 2022, for “Self Repair Assistant” (serial number 97690023). The filing described downloadable software for self-repair, self-installation, and self-maintenance involving smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and earbuds. It also included a blue gear-and-wrench icon. A trademark filing showed that Samsung was protecting a name; it did not, by itself, prove a finished app would launch. The original article treated the app as unconfirmed and placed it in the context of Samsung’s newly announced U.S. Self-Repair program. That program launched August 2, 2022, initially covering the Galaxy S20 and S21 families and Galaxy Tab S7+, with genuine parts, tools, online guides, and iFixit as a partner. What the app actually does after a repair
Samsung’s regional support pages describe the app as a post-repair utility. Depending on the model and replacement part, it can guide a user through calibration or reset component data. Samsung Germany specifically documents optical fingerprint-sensor calibration, proximity-sensor or camera-related calibration, and resetting a battery-cycle count. Samsung Mexico says the app can calibrate some replacements such as batteries and screens, while noting that not every listed part needs calibration. It is not an app that opens the phone, supplies replacement parts, or automatically repairs damage. It does not replace the model-specific instructions for disassembly, tools, adhesive, or safety. Nor does successful calibration establish that a component was installed correctly, that the part is compatible, or that the phone is water-resistant after being opened. Which Galaxy phones are supported?
There is no verified universal compatibility list. Samsung ties app support to the Self-Repair program in each market, and the available tasks can differ even between models in the same family. For example, Samsung’s Mexico page, updated May 22, 2026, lists these eligible models in that market:

That same Mexico page lists calibration for the screen, battery, and charging port on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, while naming battery calibration for the Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, S22, and S22+. Other tasks may appear only after a relevant replacement. These are Mexico-specific listings, not proof that every variant or market supports the same repairs. Samsung Spain says its Self-Repair coverage includes Galaxy S20, S21, S22, and S23 models and models launched after July 1, 2023, subject to country restrictions; the app is available only for smartphone models included in that local program. How to find and use the app
Samsung’s documented route is through the Galaxy Store on the phone being repaired. Some regional instructions require a Samsung Account. Menu wording and available repair tasks can vary by region and model.
- Confirm the phone’s exact model and check Samsung’s local Self-Repair information for eligibility.
- Open the Galaxy Store on that phone and search for Self Repair Assistant.
- Install and open the app. Review its information and grant the permissions it requests.
- Select the relevant repair or replacement component, then read and accept the disclaimer when prompted.
- Follow the displayed calibration or reset steps. For a battery, Samsung’s Spain instructions describe selecting the battery, proceeding through the prompts, starting the process, choosing Reset, and authenticating the new battery.
- Restart the phone if the instructions for your model recommend it, then run available checks in Samsung Members.
Samsung Mexico says a Samsung Account is needed to download the app there and that some calibration tasks are selected automatically based on the parts chosen. If the app is missing or does not recognize a part
- It does not appear in the Galaxy Store: Check local program eligibility, the exact model, the Galaxy Store and Samsung Account region, and whether the phone’s software is current. Regional availability or model support may be the reason.
- It installs but reports an unsupported device: Installation alone does not confirm that the phone or repair is eligible. Use the repair guide for the exact model rather than trying to force an unsupported process.
- A replacement battery works but its cycle count has not reset: The reset or authentication procedure may be required and can vary by model. Follow the app and model-specific Samsung instructions; the app cannot make an incompatible or incorrectly installed battery compatible.
- No screen-calibration option appears: That does not necessarily mean the app has failed. Samsung says some parts, including screens, back covers, or charging ports in certain cases, may not require calibration. Tasks depend on the phone and the component replaced.
- Fingerprint or proximity features still fail: Calibration cannot fix a damaged cable, misplaced bracket or gasket, poor sensor alignment, incompatible part, or separate hardware fault.
Do not assume that a VPN, changing the phone’s region, or sideloading an app from an unofficial site will make it work. Samsung’s instructions do not establish those as supported fixes. If the official app refuses the repair or the component is not recognized, contact Samsung support or an authorized repair service.

Do not attempt a DIY repair on a swollen, punctured, hot, or otherwise damaged battery. Samsung’s U.S. program announcement directs owners with swollen batteries to an authorized Samsung location rather than self-repair. Opening a sealed phone involves heat, sharp tools, glass, adhesive, and lithium-ion batteries. A repair may compromise water resistance if seals are not replaced and installed correctly, and calibration does not restore a seal. Back up important data before opening the device. Professional service is the safer choice if you lack the right tools or experience, need water resistance preserved, rely on the device for urgent work, or are repairing a foldable’s inner display or hinge.
After a completed repair, use Samsung Members diagnostics where available and test the display, charging, cameras, microphones, speakers, vibration, buttons, biometric sensors, and wireless charging as relevant to the work. Watch for unusual heat or battery drain, and check that the display or back cover sits evenly. These checks can reveal problems; they cannot prove that a device is safe to expose to water.
