The best toy organizer with drawers is one that fits your room, holds the toys you need to sort, and lets children reach and return items safely. IKEA’s TROFAST range is a documented modular option: its removable boxes and trays slide into frame grooves. Compare the exact configuration rather than assuming every unit has the same footprint or bins.
What to compare before choosing a toy organizer
- Footprint and height: Measure the wall or play area, and check that the assembled unit can be moved through doorways and around the room.
- Bin layout: Match shallow and deep containers to the toys you plan to store. Confirm the number and sizes of boxes included with the specific configuration.
- Child access: Consider the child’s age and the height of each bin. IKEA says low TROFAST storage makes it easier for children to reach and organize their things; that is the manufacturer’s intended-use description, not independent testing.
- Adjustability and care: Check whether bins can be repositioned and review the listed materials and cleaning guidance for the chosen unit.
- Installation: Read the anchoring instructions and confirm the wall and fittings are suitable for the installation.
Two TROFAST configurations to compare
These IKEA U.S. listings show why the specific combination matters: one is low and wide, while the other is narrow and tall. Their dimensions and included components are not interchangeable.

Both cited U.S. product pages describe particleboard frames with paper foil and plastic edging, polypropylene rails, and polypropylene boxes; the boxes are described as containing at least 50% recycled material. Follow the care instructions on the selected product page. Prices, stock, included parts, and delivery terms can change, so verify them with IKEA before purchasing.
Set up storage children can use
- Sort toys into broad groups, such as building pieces, vehicles, dolls, or art supplies.
- Measure the available space and compare it with the assembled unit’s listed width, depth, and height.
- Check that the supplied bins fit the toys in each group, and verify whether the selected combination includes enough bins.
- Place frequently used toys in bins the child can reach, based on the child’s age and the unit’s installed position.
- Install and anchor the unit according to its instructions before loading it.
Anchor furniture and treat toy chests as a separate hazard
Secure tall storage as directed by its manufacturer. IKEA specifically warns that the 57 1/8-inch-high TROFAST combination must be securely anchored. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission describes the serious tip-over risk from unsecured chests and dressers in its 2016 recall notice.

A storage unit with removable bins is not the same thing as a toy chest with a hinged lid. The CPSC’s Resellers Guide to Selling Safer Products separately discusses reports of serious injuries from toy-chest lids falling onto children and identifies toy chests as covered by the toy safety standard ASTM F963. Avoid treating those toy-chest reports as evidence about the removable-bin TROFAST configurations.
