For cabinet panel doors, the best hinge is the one made for your cabinet construction and door position—not a product with a universally “best” label. First identify whether the cabinet is face-frame or frameless, then confirm overlay or inset geometry, opening clearance, and the mounting plate and cup requirements. Choose opening angle and closing behavior
Opening angle and clearance
A larger opening angle can be useful when access matters, but the number alone does not guarantee that a door will clear a nearby wall, pull, adjacent door, or cabinet interior. Compare the selected hinge’s angle and application with the space around the door. Check fit before ordering or drilling
Concealed hinges do not all share the same cup drilling or mounting pattern. Blum’s technical material provides model-specific boring patterns and dimensions, so measure and identify the existing hardware before buying a replacement or making new holes. - Identify the cabinet as face-frame or frameless.
- Determine whether the door is partial overlay, full overlay, or inset.
- Record the existing hinge model and mounting plate, if replacing hardware.
- Check cup diameter and depth, drilling pattern, and plate compatibility against the selected model’s documentation.
- Measure opening clearance around adjacent doors, walls, pulls, and cabinet contents.
- Choose standard closing, an integrated soft-close option, or another supported motion configuration deliberately.
Buy a compatible mounting plate or use a boring tool only after identifying the hinge system and checking the manufacturer’s specifications. A generic tool or plate should not be assumed to fit every concealed hinge.

What durability claims do—and do not—tell you
Blum says it tests its cabinet hinges for 200,000 opening and closing cycles; the overview page does not state a year for that claim. This is a manufacturer-reported test figure, not an independent comparison, a guarantee for every model, or a prediction of service life in a particular home. Blum quality information
