Start with the simple checks: confirm the machine has power, respond to any water prompt, and make sure the capsule is clean, centered, and secured under a fully closed lid. Bartesian publishes separate guides for Professional, Duet, Premier, and Classic machines; the detailed instructions below are for Professional Model 55310. Check your model’s guide before using a control or removing a part.
Before troubleshooting: check power and water
The machine has no power
For Professional Model 55310, confirm the outlet works and the removable power cord is firmly connected to the port at the rear of the machine. If your model’s controls or cord arrangement differ, follow its guide.
The machine will not make a drink
Look for an “ADD WATER” prompt. If it appears, add water to the reservoir and press “Next.” Then check that the capsule is positioned correctly, wipe its top and the barcode reader with a soft, dry cloth, and close the lid until it latches. Bartesian’s model-specific manuals provide the applicable controls and setup steps.
The machine does not recognize a capsule
- Open the lid and wipe the capsule top and barcode reader with a soft, dry cloth.
- Check that the capsule holder is secure and the capsule sits level and centered.
- If the barcode is visibly creased, smooth it with your thumb.
- Close the lid firmly until it clicks.
Bartesian says a used capsule left in the machine for an extended time can make recognition problems more likely, so remove used capsules shortly after dispensing. For high-volume use, it suggests wiping the barcode reader after every 6–7 cocktails. See Bartesian’s capsule-recognition guidance.

The drink sprays or dispenses incorrectly
- Remove the capsule holder and clean it with hot water or in a dishwasher, then reinstall it securely. Check your model’s guide for removal instructions.
- Shake the capsule for 2–3 seconds.
- Place it level and centered in the holder.
- Close the lid firmly until it clicks, then wait for the touchscreen’s ready indication before opening it.
These steps follow Bartesian’s dispensing guidance.
Alcohol is not pumping, or the cocktail tastes different
Check the spirit bottle and port
Confirm that the required spirit is in the correct port. Bartesian also says the spirit in each bottle must match its dispenser lid; a mismatch or incorrect port can lead to an incorrectly mixed drink. For an unusual taste, the Professional manual recommends filtered or bottled water. Do not put anything but water in the reservoir.

Clean the bottle lids and duck-bill valve
For Professional Model 55310, follow the manual’s removable-part instructions: remove the duck-bill valve from the spirit lid, squeeze it to clear buildup, rinse and dry it, then reinstall it correctly. Do not omit the valve; the manual warns that spirits can leak if it is missing. Clean bottle lids as directed in the model’s guide. Bartesian’s first-use instructions explain the bottle and dispenser-lid matching requirement.
Spirit or water flows over the capsule
On Professional Model 55310, check that the removable capsule-seal gasket is installed around the upper needle, then close and latch the lid. The needle is sharp, so handle the seal according to the manual’s cleaning cautions. Do not assume another model uses the same part or removal procedure.

The lid will not close
Press down on the handle while closing. If it still will not latch, open the lid, reposition the capsule, and check that it is installed correctly. Use your model’s guide if the lid or capsule holder differs.

Cleaning and maintenance
Bartesian says the machine self-rinses with each drink and recommends running the Rinse/Clean function every 30 days. At first use, follow the machine’s First Use prompt to prime the water line; a small amount of initial dispensing is described as normal. Keep the reservoir for water only, and follow your model’s approved cleaning steps. See Bartesian’s machine setup instructions.
Do not open the machine base, pull internal hoses, or try vinegar or chemical flushes. Bartesian’s cited procedures do not establish these as safe troubleshooting steps. If external checks and the model-approved cleaning steps do not solve the problem, contact Bartesian Hardware Support.
