The figures below are manufacturer claims, not independent test results.
What is the Redgrass R9 designed for?
Redgrass markets the R9 for close-up work where seeing color and fine detail matters. Its named applications include miniature painting, art and craft work, jewelry benches, soldering electronics, and dental or laboratory restoration. These are the manufacturer’s intended uses, not independent professional endorsements.
Redgrass describes the lamp as “built for precision work that demands absolute clarity.” That is promotional language; whether the R9 is a good fit depends on your workspace, preferred light and budget.
What lighting specifications does Redgrass publish?
Redgrass lists 96 custom, dimmable LEDs, arranged as 48 LEDs in each of the two light bars. The lamp uses a 60-degree optical lens and fixed 5000K daylight; dimming is specified, but adjustable color temperature is not. Redgrass also claims a maximum output of 1800 lumens and illuminance of 3700 lux at 45 cm. These figures come from the manufacturer, and no independent measurement is established here. Those are distinct metrics and should not be treated as interchangeable. Redgrass also describes the lamp as flicker-free, glare-free, EMC safe, and RG0 for blue-light hazard classification. These are vendor claims, not independently verified findings or proof of a health outcome.
How might the dual light bars help?
The R9 has two independently rotating light bars. Redgrass presents their movement as a way to shape the light and reduce shadows: for example, positioning illumination from more than one direction may help limit the dark areas your hand or tools cast over a small workpiece. The usefulness of that arrangement will depend on the size and layout of your bench and how you position the lamp.

Is the R9 a good fit for your workbench?
- Consider it if: you want a dimmable 5000K task light, prefer two movable light bars, and value the color-rendering specifications Redgrass publishes for close visual work.
- Look carefully at alternatives if: you need adjustable color temperature, have a mounting setup that cannot use the R9 Clamp or compatible Bench Mount, or want independently verified performance data before paying a premium.
- Compare before buying: check color-rendering metrics and their measurement ranges, illuminance at a stated distance, beam and shadow control, articulation, mounting options, dimming and color-temperature control, footprint, warranty and return terms, and regional price. Without comparable specifications or testing, it is not possible to conclude that the R9 outperforms another lamp.
