Civmec Limited (ASX: CVL) has won a construction contract for the gallium production plant at Alcoa’s Wagerup Alumina Refinery in Western Australia. The contract was included in a package of new awards and extensions worth more than A$220 million, lifting Civmec’s order book to approximately A$1.5 billion; neither figure is the disclosed value of the Wagerup contract alone.
What Civmec will build at Wagerup
Civmec’s scope covers multidisciplinary construction of the plant’s process facilities. The company lists civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation work, including a process building, tanks, a laboratory and supporting infrastructure. Civmec will also support Alcoa through commissioning. Civmec’s announcement does not state a contract-specific price or margin.

What the order-book figures mean
The more-than-A$220 million figure is the combined value of several new contract awards and extensions announced by Civmec on 6 October 2026. The approximately A$1.5 billion figure is the company’s resulting order book. Civmec has not separately disclosed the Wagerup contract’s value, so the combined award total cannot be used to estimate its price.
Civmec said the broader awards and extensions are expected to be delivered across FY27 and FY28. That schedule applies to the group of awards, not necessarily to this project’s specific construction milestones.

How the project reached the construction phase

These releases establish the project’s announced milestones and Alcoa’s operator role, but do not specify the precise contract counterparties, partner economics or offtake allocations.
Why gallium is part of Alcoa’s supply-chain plans
Alcoa identifies uses for gallium in advanced technologies, including semiconductors and defence applications, and says global supply is highly concentrated. The company presents the Wagerup project as a way to diversify supply. It has not quantified that concentration in the cited project announcement. Alcoa Australia President Elsabe Muller said the company was working with partners in Australia, Japan and the United States to help diversify the global gallium market.
Alcoa announced an expectation of 100 metric tons of gallium annually in 2025, before its final investment decision and the start-of-construction milestone. That is an earlier-stage project estimate, not a confirmed 2026 production commitment. The cited releases do not state a revised expected annual output.

Construction jobs and ongoing roles
Civmec and Alcoa have cited up to 200 local construction jobs for the project. Alcoa separately estimates approximately 20 permanent roles once the plant is operating. These are estimates for different project phases, not interchangeable workforce totals.
