University of Prince Edward Island MBA graduate Dylan Cooper is developing AI-enabled software through his company, Boardwalk Inc., to automate parts of construction estimating and compliance. UPEI says the software is intended to generate RFP compliance reports and produce system designs, including bills of materials, from standard construction drawings. The university’s October 6, 2026 profile describes the venture as moving toward commercialization; it does not establish that the product is available or that its anticipated benefits have been demonstrated.
What Boardwalk’s software is intended to do
According to UPEI’s October 6, 2026 profile, Boardwalk is developing software to automate time-consuming work in construction estimating and compliance. Its stated functions include preparing compliance reports for requests for proposals (RFPs) and completing system designs, including bills of materials, based on standard construction drawings.
UPEI presents saving estimating time and reducing the potential for human error as hoped-for benefits, not measured results. The profile does not specify supported drawing formats, accuracy, integrations, pricing, customers, a release date, or a purchasing route. It therefore does not establish that Boardwalk’s software has launched or is available to construction firms.
Venture milestones reported by UPEI
UPEI reports that Cooper received $25,000 in seed funding from Innovation PEI’s Ignition Fund in 2026. The university also says he was accepted into Volta’s AI Residency in Halifax and that Boardwalk was selected for the Prime stream of Creative Destruction Lab–Atlantic, which it describes as a nine-month, objectives-based mentorship program. These are milestones reported as of the profile’s publication on October 6, 2026, rather than confirmation of current program or company status.

At that time, Cooper was in the final stages of hiring Boardwalk’s first developer as the company moved toward commercialization. That account signals development activity, but does not by itself establish a launch, customer adoption, or commercial performance.
How Cooper connects the MBA to the venture
Cooper completed UPEI’s MBA in Global Leadership in August 2026. He points to the program’s Disruptive Technologies course, taught by McDougall Faculty of Business professor Gary Evans, as one influence on how he considers emerging technologies and their practical uses.
Rank #2
“The MBA gave me a different way of looking at business and, in particular, the opportunities that come with emerging technologies,” he said. “The Disruptive Technologies course really helped me think differently about what is possible and how technology can be applied to solve real problems.”
UPEI describes the course as exploring disruptive technologies, the pace and direction of technological change, and creative thinking in a changing business environment. The MBA also covers core areas including strategy, leadership, finance, marketing, and business analytics, alongside relevant electives.

“I think one of the biggest things I took away from the MBA was the importance of understanding where things are going rather than just where they are today,” he said. “That mindset has been really valuable as it has pushed me to challenge what is possible with technology and its practical applications.”
Evans framed Cooper’s work as an example of applying classroom learning to practical problems:
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.“Dylan is a great example of how our MBA students can take what they learn in the classroom and apply it to real-world challenges,” said Evans. “His work demonstrates the kind of creative and forward-thinking approach that we hope students develop throughout the program.”
What the profile does—and does not—establish
- Established by UPEI’s account: Cooper is an MBA in Global Leadership graduate and founder of Boardwalk Inc.; the company is developing software for construction estimating and compliance.
- Described as intended functionality: RFP compliance reporting and system-design outputs, including bills of materials, from standard construction drawings.
- Not established: Product availability, supported file formats, measured time savings, estimating accuracy, error reduction, customer outcomes, or market adoption.
The distinction matters for contractors assessing a new workflow tool: the profile explains the problem Boardwalk aims to address and the company’s reported development milestones, but it is not a product specification or evidence of operating results.
