The new Chick-fil-A at Oakdale Commons in Johnson City, New York, was expected to open in October 2026, according to a July report. That was a forecast, not confirmation. As of October 7, the available local reports do not verify whether the restaurant has opened.
Where is the new Chick-fil-A being built?
The restaurant is at Oakdale Commons, on the southeast corner of Harry L. Drive and Reynolds Road. The site was formerly occupied by a KeyBank branch, according to WBNG and WNBF.
What is happening at the site?
WBNG reported on May 8, 2026, that the former bank building had been demolished and the site leveled, with construction underway. In a July 13 update, WNBF said work had begun in early May and crews were erecting the restaurant building.
When will it open?
WBNG described a fall opening expectation in May, while WNBF reported in July that October was the expected opening month. Neither report confirms an opening date or establishes that the restaurant is now operating. The October timing should therefore be treated as a dated projection, not a current announcement.

Why were crews working on Sunday?
WNBF noted Sunday construction activity and explained that Chick-fil-A’s Sunday closure applies to its restaurants, not to independent construction contractors. The company has explained its restaurant closure policy as giving employees a day to rest and worship if they choose; that policy does not indicate that construction work must stop on Sundays. WNBF’s report attributes that explanation to Chick-fil-A.
