BMW Industries Limited commissioned the colour-coating line at its greenfield downstream steel complex in Bokaro, Jharkhand, on 5 October 2026. The company described the line as the project’s first phase; the announcement does not establish that the entire complex or its other planned production lines are operating. The board-approved project cost was ₹803.47 crore, commonly rounded to ₹803 crore.
What BMW Industries commissioned
The milestone announced on 5 October 2026 was commissioning of the complex’s colour-coating line, which the company identified as its first phase. It is not confirmation that all facilities in the broader steel complex have been completed or commissioned. BMW Industries’ dated filing announcement establishes the event and date, but the accessible filing information does not state the line’s rated capacity, actual output, or commissioning dates for the other planned lines.
Where the complex is and what it will make
The greenfield complex is in Bokaro, Jharkhand. In its 19 March 2025 project announcement, BMW Industries outlined a wider downstream-steel plan covering cold-rolled full-hard, galvanized, and colour-coated coil and sheet products. Those categories describe announced project scope; they should not be read as evidence that every line is now operating.
| Announced product category | Planned annual capacity |
|---|---|
| Cold-rolled full-hard coil/sheet | 300,000 tonnes |
| Galvanized coil/sheet | 540,000 tonnes |
| Colour-coated coil/sheet | 200,000 tonnes |
These are project-wide planned capacities published by BMW Industries on 19 March 2025, not verified production rates for the commissioned colour-coating line. The October 2026 announcement does not establish current output or confirm that the other product lines have been commissioned. BMW Industries’ project disclosure

- High profile design provides added protection to personnel and equipment
- Four pre-drilled mounting holes in base plate allow quick lag down installation
- Powder coat yellow finish provides long lasting durable coverage
- Heavy-duty welded steel construction protects racks, building walls, expensive equipment, and hundreds of other applications

How the ₹803-crore figure fits
BMW Industries’ board approved ₹803.47 crore in capital expenditure for the project on 19 March 2025. In a company release dated 16 May 2025, the project cost was rounded to ₹803 crore; that rounded figure is the basis for the headline amount. The project cost is the approved capex for the broader complex, not a stated cost for the colour-coating line alone.
From forecast to commissioning
In May 2025, BMW Industries forecast that Phase 1 operations would begin toward the end of FY2026. That was a forward-looking expectation at the time, not the commissioning confirmation. The company’s 5 October 2026 filing subsequently reported the colour-coating line commissioning as the first-phase milestone.
