Samsung calls it a “pump filter” or “debris filter” in some support materials. The location and even whether a removable filter exists depend on the washer’s type, model, and region: Samsung US says its top-load washers do not have a removable pump filter, while Samsung Latin America describes a rear drain filter on some compatible top-load models.
Where to find the Samsung washer drain filter
First identify whether your washer is front-load or top-load, then check the instructions for its exact model and purchase region. Samsung Canada notes that a pump filter’s location or removal method can vary by washer.

If the panel, hose, or filter does not match the common front-load layout, consult your model’s manual rather than forcing a part open. Samsung Canada specifically advises checking the model manual when general instructions do not fit: Samsung Canada washer-cleaning guidance.
What the drain filter does—and what it is not
On front-load models with a removable filter, the pump or debris filter catches lint and small objects before they enter the drain-pump system. “Drain filter,” “pump filter,” and “debris filter” are terms used in Samsung’s regional support materials for this component.

It is different from the small mesh filter in a water inlet hose. The inlet filter is at the water-supply connection and has a separate cleaning procedure; the low front access panel is where many front-load models’ drain-pump filter is found. Samsung Australia’s debris-filter guide.
How to clean a common front-load pump filter
These steps describe a common design, not every Samsung model. Follow your washer’s manual if its parts or removal method differ.

- Easy To Install: 1. Drain a any leftover water in the pump 2. Unthread the old coin trap filter counterclockwise to remove(clean out the housing as necessary) 3. Install the new coin trap filter by aligning the notch in the trap with the tab in the housing
- Let hot-cycle water cool. If the washer has just run a hot Self Clean, Pure Cycle, or Sanitize cycle, Samsung US advises waiting one hour before cleaning to reduce the risk of injury. Samsung US cleaning guidance
- Prepare for residual water. Put a towel and shallow container below the low access panel. Water remaining in the machine will drain when you open the emergency drain hose.
- Drain through the emergency hose. Open the panel, remove the rubber hose, take off its cap, and empty the water into the container. The cap may be tight because it makes an airtight seal.
- Remove the filter. Once water has drained, turn the filter counterclockwise. Some models use a push-in-and-turn safety design, so check the manual if it will not release with the usual turn.
- Clean and inspect. Rinse away lint and debris with a small toothbrush or another soft-bristle brush. Check that the drain-pump impeller inside the housing is clear. A suitable household toothbrush is enough; a special branded tool is not required. Samsung US cleaning guidance
- Reassemble securely. Turn the filter clockwise until it is secured. Replace and tighten the hose cap, return the hose to its clip, and close the access panel.
How often to clean it
Use the schedule Samsung gives for your region and model; the recommendations are not identical worldwide.
- United States: Samsung recommends cleaning a front-load pump filter at least once a month or approximately every 40 washes, whichever is more frequent. This is manufacturer maintenance guidance. Samsung US cleaning guidance

If the washer still will not drain
A clogged debris filter can reduce the effectiveness of the drain system, but cleaning it does not establish that it was the cause of every drainage problem. Samsung’s no-drain troubleshooting also considers the drain hose and other possible causes. If the problem continues after the filter is cleaned and reinstalled, follow the model-specific troubleshooting steps rather than repeatedly removing the filter. Samsung US no-drain troubleshooting
