If your Samsung dryer stops mid-cycle, first check whether it actually lost power or whether the cycle ended early while the display stayed on. A dark display points toward a power or supply problem; an illuminated display with damp clothes can point to restricted venting, an error condition, or Sensor Dry ending too soon. Check the displayed code, run the model’s vent blockage test if available, and clean the lint screen and vent. Stop and get professional help for damaged electrical connections, repeated breaker trips, or a problem that continues after these checks.
First identify what “shutting off” means
Watch the display and drum when the dryer stops. Samsung treats a dryer that loses power differently from one that remains powered but ends its cycle early.
- Display goes dark and the drum stops: Check the power connection and breaker, and note whether the breaker has tripped.
- Display remains lit, but the cycle ends: The dryer may have completed Sensor Dry early, or an error or vent condition may have interrupted operation.
Write down any error code or indicator before restarting. The code can point to a vent or temperature issue, a door problem, or a voltage issue. Samsung’s mid-cycle shutoff guide notes that a dryer may shut itself off as a safety measure if it detects a vent blockage.
Check the exhaust vent and lint screen
A restricted exhaust path can keep heat and moisture from escaping. Samsung recommends running the dryer’s Vent Blockage test when the model provides one; if it reports a blockage, clean the vent before using the dryer again. The test controls vary by model, so follow the exact model’s manual or Samsung’s model-specific instructions rather than trying a button combination from another dryer.

With the dryer off, clean the lint screen and inspect the accessible exhaust path for accumulated lint, kinks, flattening, or unsuitable vent material. The duct should be properly fitted and sealed, stay within the maximum length specified in the manual, and have as few turns as practical. Samsung recommends cleaning the exhaust vent once or twice a year; actual installation requirements depend on the model. A vent-cleaning brush or kit may help if inspection or the test indicates a blockage, but it will not address unrelated power or sensor problems. See Samsung’s vent-care guidance.
Some models have a Vent Check icon. Samsung says it may illuminate at about 60% blockage and blink after a cycle at about 80% blockage; these thresholds are model-dependent. Treat an alert as a reason to inspect and clean the vent, not as a measurement that applies to every Samsung dryer. Details appear in Samsung’s Vent Check guidance.

If the dryer stays on but stops after a few minutes
When the panel remains powered, an early cycle finish may not be a power failure. Sensor Dry ends a cycle when its sensors detect dry laundry. Residue from dryer sheets on the sensor bars can interfere with sensing; Samsung recommends gently cleaning the bars with a soft cloth and a drop of dish soap. Find the bars and follow care instructions for your model.
A mixed load can also produce an unsatisfactory early finish: lighter items may reach the sensor bars before heavier pieces are dry. Choose a cycle and settings suited to the fabric and load. Damp Alert indicates that clothes are still damp; Samsung says it does not stop the cycle. See its Sensor Dry troubleshooting guidance.

Use error codes to narrow the next step
Read the code or indicator on the display and consult Samsung’s dryer error-code guidance for your model. Common code families point to different checks:
- Temperature or heating: Clean the lint screen and exhaust vent first. If the error remains, Samsung directs owners to request service. On some electric dryers, low voltage can contribute to a heating error; have an electrician check the supply rather than opening or modifying electrical connections.
- Door or latch: Check that clothing is not caught in the door and that the latch closes securely. Persistent codes or visible latch damage call for service.
- Voltage or other persistent errors: These may require a qualified electrician or appliance technician, depending on whether the issue is in the household supply or the dryer.
If the display goes dark or the breaker trips
For sudden loss of power, check whether the breaker has tripped and whether the dryer’s power connection appears secure. Switch off the breaker before interacting with the power cord. Electric dryers require the correct cord installation.

Do not use the dryer if the plug, cord, or outlet has burn marks or visible damage. Contact an electrician. Do the same if the breaker trips repeatedly; do not keep resetting it to run another cycle. Samsung’s power and shutoff guidance also recommends professional help for these conditions.

A safe troubleshooting sequence
- Observe the stop: Check whether the display goes dark or stays lit, and record any code or indicator.
- Test for a vent blockage: If your model offers a Vent Blockage test, run it using the exact model’s instructions. Clean the vent if blockage is reported.
- Clean and inspect airflow components: Clean the lint screen and check the accessible vent path for lint, kinks, flattening, and installation issues. Compare the setup with the model manual.
- Address early Sensor Dry finishes: If the dryer stays powered, clean the sensor bars gently and consider whether the load mix or selected cycle explains why heavier items remain damp.
- Follow the error family: Check airflow for temperature or heating codes; check the door and latch for door codes. Use professional help for voltage issues or errors that persist after the recommended cleaning.
- Stop when electrical damage or a persistent fault is present: Contact an electrician for damaged power connections or repeated breaker trips. Request Samsung or appliance-repair service if the dryer still will not stay on or an error remains.
