They disagree on when completion or delivery occurred, however, so no single year should be treated as definitive. Designed by Vincent Callebaut Architectures, the building is known for its DNA-inspired form, in which floors rotate to create a twisting profile.
What is Tao Zhu Yin Yuan?
Tao Zhu Yin Yuan is a residential tower in Taipei designed by Vincent Callebaut Architectures. The architect describes a program of 42 sustainable apartments, while the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) record lists 40 apartments. Given that difference, it is safest to describe it as a building with about 40 apartments rather than presenting either count as settled. Vincent Callebaut Architectures’ project record also lists facilities as part of the program.
The tower’s name is also rendered in English as Agora Garden Tower. Its design combines residential use with planted terraces and a distinctive twisting silhouette.
Why does the tower twist?
The architect presents the design as a vertical landscape inspired by DNA’s double helix. According to project information from BES Engineering Corporation, each floor rotates 4.5 degrees relative to the one below it, producing a reported total rotation of 90 degrees. Stacked together, those turns create the building’s spiral form and shape the arrangement of its planted outdoor spaces.

These certifications are documented project milestones, but they do not, by themselves, establish a particular level of measured energy savings or carbon removal.
When was it completed?
Published records give different dates, apparently reflecting different milestones such as construction completion, first-unit handover, certification, or later delivery. The dates should be reported with their sources rather than collapsed into one definitive completion year.

Claims about planting, materials, energy systems, and carbon absorption describe the project’s stated features and targets. They should not be mistaken for independently verified results from the occupied building. In particular, the reported potential absorption of up to 130 tons per year is not established by the sources as a measured annual outcome.
