The best microgreen growing kit is the one that fits your available light and space, includes the supplies you need, and gives clear guidance for the crops you want to grow. There is no tested winner established here, so compare the actual contents and growing setup rather than relying on a “best” label.
What do you need to grow microgreens at home?
Microgreens are closely spaced, fast-growing vegetable seedlings harvested and eaten at the true-leaf stage, according to University of Maryland Extension. The essentials are seed, a reusable food-grade container or growing tray, growing medium, water, heat, and light.
A practical setup may also use a measuring tool, small colander, pitcher, and spray bottle. Penn State Extension describes peat-based mixes, coconut coir, and fiber mats as common growing media, and advises choosing a medium that is clean, safe, relatively inexpensive, and sustainable.

Do microgreens need a grow light?
Not always: a sunny window may work in some settings. But light conditions vary, and a grow light can help when natural light is insufficient. Which crops are suitable for a beginner?

Harvest timing depends on the crop. Utah State University Extension provides crop-specific sowing and presoak information as well as estimated times to harvest: Utah State University Extension’s microgreens guide. Use the guidance for your selected seed rather than assuming every variety follows the same timetable.
What can a bundled kit include?
One example in Johnny’s Selected Seeds’ deluxe LED microgreens starter kit instructions describes insert trays, germination mix, a hand sprayer, a mini greenhouse dome, and an LED strip. The instructions also note that sowing density varies with crop, seed size, and growing conditions. This illustrates one possible configuration; it is not evidence of superior performance or a guarantee that the kit remains available unchanged.

Should you buy a kit or assemble your own setup?
A kit can simplify a first grow if it bundles compatible trays, medium, seed, and clear instructions. In either case, compare the components you will actually use and avoid paying twice for equipment you already have.
