Its product page advertises temperatures up to 1,250°F, but that is Recteq’s stated maximum—not an independently verified grate temperature or a Smoke Mode setting. The official retail name is X-Fire Pro 825.
How the X-Fire Pro switches between grilling and smoking
The defining difference is not simply a temperature setting: the two modes use different cooking postures and controls. The X-Fire Pro 825 product page presents the grill as a pellet-fueled alternative to a conventional gas grill, while the owner’s manual explains how its operating modes work.
Grill Mode: open lid, direct-flame control
Grill Mode is designed for open-lid cooking. The manual says both firepots are controlled independently, and the direct flame is adjusted on the grill’s right side. The right-side system is adjustable; the left side uses a fixed heat deflector. Recteq calls this feature Adaptive Sear Control.
Smoke Mode: closed lid, set temperature
Smoke Mode is for closed-lid cooking. It operates the left firepot, and its controller can be set from 225°F to 400°F in 25°F increments. Recteq specifies PID control for this mode, which regulates the set temperature. That controller range is distinct from the much higher maximum advertised for the grill.

What Recteq’s 1,250°F figure means
Recteq advertises a 225°F–1,250°F range and describes the grill as the “hottest pellet grill.” Those are manufacturer claims; the cited materials do not establish an independently measured 1,250°F cooking-surface temperature. The manual’s Smoke Mode ceiling is 400°F, so the headline maximum should not be read as a low-and-slow setting or as a temperature available through the Smoke Mode controller.
Recteq CEO Ralph Santana framed the launch as an effort to combine gas-style high-heat, open-lid cooking with pellet-grill smoking. In the company’s April 17, 2025 release, he said: “Finally, the best gas grill is now a pellet grill.” That is promotional positioning, not an independent comparative finding.

What the independent review adds—and what it does not
Tom’s Guide reports that its reviewer and partner used the grill for a year, cooking low-and-slow foods, searing, basic grilling and rotisserie dishes. The review describes good results for smoking and reports useful app and probe monitoring. It is one publication’s account of use, not a controlled comparison against other grills.
- The reviewer found cleaning difficult.
- The review notes that the grill does not display a grill-mode temperature.
- Tom’s Guide says Recteq’s pizza-kit compatibility list excludes the X-Fire Pro 825.
Setup, fuel and accessories to check
The manual’s setup instructions call for pellets in both hoppers and firepots. Recteq specifies wood pellets as the fuel, but the cited materials do not establish a required brand or blend. Follow the manual’s setup, operation, grease and ash handling, and shutdown instructions rather than treating Grill Mode and Smoke Mode as interchangeable settings.

Recteq named an optional rotisserie spit rod in its launch release at a launch-era price of $249.99. Tom’s Guide reports rotisserie use, but verify the accessory’s current availability and compatibility with the specific X-Fire Pro 825 before buying. Recteq’s listed pizza kit compatibility does not include this model, according to the review.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who the X-Fire Pro 825 may suit
The design is aimed at cooks who want pellet fuel and closed-lid smoking alongside open-lid grilling with direct-flame adjustment. Before choosing it, consider whether its mode-specific controls fit the way you cook, whether you are comfortable with the lack of a displayed grill-mode temperature noted by the reviewer, and whether the unit’s listed footprint and 222-pound weight fit your outdoor cooking space. The conflicting published cooking-area figures are not reconciled by the available sources.
