Verdict: The All-New Velvetiser is worth considering if you regularly make Hotel Chocolat-style drinks and will use both its hot and cold settings. Independent reviewers liked the smooth, foamy results, but cold mode blends pre-chilled milk rather than cooling it, and the best cold results depend on Hotel Chocolat’s finely milled sachets. If you only want hot chocolate, the premium over the original is harder to justify.
What the All-New Velvetiser does
Hotel Chocolat positions the All-New Velvetiser as a single-serving maker for hot and cold drinking chocolate. The key addition over a hot-only machine is a cold program: it mixes chocolate into milk that is already cold. It does not refrigerate or actively chill the drink, so use milk straight from the fridge if you want a cold serving.
Hotel Chocolat says its custom whisk and ridged vessel create a vortex to mix real chocolate and milk. That is the company’s explanation of the design, not independent proof of a particular texture. For the US model, the official listing specifies a 10 oz capacity, a 2.5-minute cycle, and a hot temperature of 155–158°F. Those specifications apply to the US listing and should not be assumed for UK models.
In the US, the manufacturer states that purchases from Hotel Chocolat include a 24-month limited warranty. Check the terms for your region and seller; the US warranty statement does not establish coverage for a UK appliance or third-party purchase. Hotel Chocolat US product listing

- SMOOTH MILK CHOCOLATE BALANCE – A creamy 50% cocoa blend delivering gentle cacao depth with soft milkiness for a smooth, rounded hot chocolate that’s rich yet easy-drinking.
- REAL CHOCOLATE FLAKES - Crafted with shaved chocolate flakes, not conventional cocoa powder. Keeping the cocoa butter creates a smoother melt, creamier texture, and richer chocolate flavor.
- MORE CACAO, LESS SUGAR - Crafted for those who prefer a richer chocolate taste with a more balanced sweetness level.
- PERFECT FOR ANY OCCASION – Great as an afternoon treat, dessert drink, or make it iced for summer refreshment.
- ETHICALLY SOURCED - As with all of our recipes, you can be sure that all the ingredients have been ethically sourced.
How the drinks turned out in hands-on reviews
Hot chocolate
Rebecca Knight’s Ideal Home review found the hot drink silky and topped with microfoam. She reported that the whisk mixed flakes into both cow’s milk and oat milk. Millie Fender’s Tom’s Guide review described a fluffy hot drink that was ready to serve. These are reviewers’ observations rather than a guarantee that every recipe or milk will produce the same result.
Cold chocolate
Both reviewers were positive about cold mode. Ideal Home found the drinks smooth and frothy, while noting some powder residue around the vessel’s edge. Tom’s Guide reported a fridge-cold drink with well-integrated chocolate and no graininess. Because the machine does not chill the milk, the cold result depends on starting with chilled milk.
Ideal Home says the strongest cold-mode effect depends on Hotel Chocolat’s finely milled cold sachets. That makes the mode less flexible than simply assuming any drinking-chocolate powder will mix equally well. Sachets are a recurring consumable, so factor their ongoing cost and local availability into the decision; review-period prices are not a reliable guide to current offers. Cleaning and everyday usability
The whisk is removable, but the interior ridges add detail to wipe and dry. Both reviews noted that the grooves and whisk make cleaning more hands-on than the drink-making cycle might suggest. Ideal Home also found the fill mark difficult to see and described the handle as bulky for storage. It reported milk residue at the base in a couple of its cow’s-milk tests; that was a limited observation, not evidence of a universal fault.

- Chocolatier Imagined. Obsessively engineered: Introducing the only system for hot and cold drinking chocolate. Unlock a library of chocolatier imagined flavor. The all new Velvetiser - drinking chocolate as it should be.
- The Vortex Effect: Combining a custom designed whisk with patent-protected innovation, the all new Velvetiser's Vortex-Effect creates an unrivalled texture.
- Hot & Cold Capabilities: Engineered to work in harmony with our hot and new cold drinking chocolate recipes, the Velvetiser’s thermodynamic programming has two settings: one for hot chocolate, one for cold. Its hot chocolate setting melds real chocolate flakes at approximately 155-157 degrees Farenheit, the optimum melting point for chocolate. Its cold chocolate setting is uniquely calibrated to pulse at the beginning, gently melding finely milled real chocolate with pre-chilled milk.
- US Power Supply: No assembly required, manufactured for US power outlets.
- InnerPod Ridges: Patented ridges act as barrier to flow, condensing these air passages to aid the melding process and stabilise the vortex.
All-New Velvetiser vs the original
| Consideration | All-New Velvetiser | Original Velvetiser |
|---|---|---|
| Drink modes | Hot and cold; cold mode mixes pre-chilled milk and does not chill it. | Hot chocolate only, according to Ideal Home’s comparison. |
| Best fit | People who will use cold mode as well as hot drinks and value the serving ritual. | People who want hot chocolate only, prefer wider ingredient freedom, or want a machine that also works as a conventional milk frother, according to Ideal Home. |
| Cold ingredients | Ideal Home says the full cold-mode effect depends on Hotel Chocolat’s finely milled sachets. | No cold mode to assess. |
| Current comparable price and bundle | Check the live local product page and confirm generation, included serving pieces, sachet bundle, voltage, and warranty channel. | Not stated as a current like-for-like price in the cited sources. |
Tom’s Guide’s August 2025 review favored the new model, particularly for owners of the original who especially enjoy cold chocolate. That was a launch-era judgment, so compare today’s local prices and package contents rather than relying on historical price differences.
Price, market, and what to check before buying
At the time accessed, Hotel Chocolat’s UK catalogue listed the Velvetiser in Pebble, Chalk, and Pewter for £119.95. The catalogue price can change with promotions or bundles. The official US listing showed a $145 sale price against $185 and says the machine is made for US outlets; that sale is a snapshot, not a permanent price. UK and US listings are not interchangeable: confirm the correct power supply and warranty for your market before ordering.
When comparing listings, check the model generation, included Podcup or Podglass, sachet bundle, market-specific power supply, and warranty provider. Independent launch-period reviews cited different UK prices, which should not be treated as current pricing. Hotel Chocolat UK Velvetiser catalogue · Hotel Chocolat US listing
