Known as Noche de Rábanos (Night of the Radishes), this public Christmas-season exhibition brings local artisans and horticultural participants together to portray community life, customs, legends and dances.
What happens at Noche de Rábanos?
Participants create detailed scenes using radishes alongside materials such as flor inmortal (everlasting flowers) and totomoxtle (corn husks). The works turn perishable natural materials into expressive displays: figures, settings and cultural scenes that reflect life in Oaxaca.
The exhibition is the central attraction, rather than a generic Christmas market. Mexico’s federal cultural listing connects the celebration with Oaxaca’s Christmas Eve market and identifies December 23 as the festival date. State and national tourism sources place the display at Oaxaca City’s Zócalo, the main square.
What do the displays represent?
The scenes draw on everyday life and local culture, including traditions, legends and dances. For the 128th edition, held in 2025, the Oaxaca state government reported 126 works made with radishes, flor inmortal and totomoxtle. That is the count for that edition, not a fixed number for the event every year. Oaxaca state government, December 23, 2025.

For the 2025 edition, the state tourism agency announced public viewing from 15:00 on December 23 at the Zócalo. Its notice also listed a radish harvest and theatrical presentation on December 20, followed by a procession on December 22.
