LG washer codes point to conditions to investigate, not automatic proof that a specific part has failed. Start by matching the code to your washerโs type and exact model, then try only the checks in its manual. The meanings below reflect LG USA guidance; codes and procedures can vary by model, so use your modelโs documentation before cleaning, opening panels, or ordering parts.
How to use an LG washer error code
- Identify the washer type and model. Check the model label and find the matching manual. LGโs front-load code list and top-load code list are separate; do not assume a code has the same meaning on every washer.
- Read the code as a clue. It describes a detected condition, not a confirmed failed component. Try the relevant visible, owner-safe checks below.
- Stop if the code persists or guidance calls for service. Do not dismantle the washer or buy a part based on the code alone. Contact LG or a qualified technician for a persistent issue or suspected component fault.
Front-load LG washer codes
These meanings follow LG USAโs front-load list dated March 9, 2026. Check the exact model manual for any differences.
OE, E03, E21: washer cannot drain
LG groups these codes as a drainage problem. A kinked or blocked drain hose, debris in the drain-pump filter, excess suds, or a pump/component problem may be involved; the code alone does not identify which. LGโs OE guidance specifically says the machine is unable to drain wash water.
- Check the drain hose behind the washer for kinks or visible obstruction; straighten it if needed.
- If the model supports it, follow its manual to run a spin-only check. If the pump hums, LG advises inspecting and cleaning the drain-pump filter using the modelโs procedure. Prepare for water release and follow the manualโs precautions.
- If excessive suds may be contributing, LG recommends a Tub Clean cycle and reducing detergent. Tub Clean is not a fix for a blocked hose or failed component.
If the code returns after the model-appropriate checks, arrange service rather than assuming the pump or filter needs replacement. A filter should be replaced only if inspection shows it is damaged or missing, and any replacement must match the washer model.

IE, E02, E10: insufficient water entering
LG says IE appears when the washer does not reach an adequate water level within the specified time. Check that water is available, the faucet is open, and the supply hose is connected without being pressed or bent. In freezing weather, a frozen hose or pipe can interrupt filling.
LGโs IE troubleshooting guidance discusses thawing with warm water at 50ยฐC or lower and cleaning the inlet filter. Follow your model manual for access and safety precautions. If those checks do not resolve the code, a malfunctioning inlet valve is possible and service is appropriate.

UE: unbalanced laundry
UE can occur when items gather on one side, the load is too large or too small, unsuitable items are mixed together, or the washer is not level. Pause the cycle and redistribute the laundry; use the cycle intended for bulky items when appropriate, and check that the washer is level. LG says its front-load washer works best at around two-thirds drum capacity, but that is LG guidanceโnot a universal threshold for every model. See LGโs UE guidance.
LE: tub does not spin
For a front-load washer, LG associates LE with a tub that fails to spin. An overloaded washer or foreign object may strain or obstruct rotation; the code does not prove a specific motor part has failed. Turn the washer off, reduce the load, and check for visible objects without dismantling the machine. LGโs code-specific guidance includes unplugging the washer for five minutes before trying again. If LE persists, contact LG service.

dE, dE1, E01, dE2, E30: door closure or lock
LG distinguishes dE/dE1/E01, indicating a door that is not properly closed, from dE2/E30, indicating a closed door that is not locked. Check for clothing caught in the door or gasket, then close the door again. LGโs code list describes a power reset; follow the procedure for your model. Request service if the code continues.
CL and tCL: lock setting and cleaning reminder
CL is the child or control lock, not an ordinary fault code. The button or button combination to change it varies by model. LG identifies tCL as a tub-clean reminder and recommends running a Tub Clean cycle. Neither indicator, by itself, is a reason to buy a replacement part.

Top-load LG washer codes
Top-load code meanings and troubleshooting can differ from front-load guidance. LGโs top-load list describes LE/LE1 as a motor that cannot spin and discusses foreign objects caught near the wash plate or drum. If this appears, turn the washer off and check only for visible obstructions you can safely reach under the modelโs instructions. Do not treat LE or LE1 as proof that the motor needs replacement; persistent codes need service assessment.
Other codes: use the model manual
LGโs lists include FE (overfill), PE (water-level or pressure-sensor issue), PF (power failure), and tE (temperature-sensor issue), among other model-dependent notifications. Their appearance does not establish which component, if any, has failed. Check the exact model manual for its meaning and prescribed action; the LG troubleshooting guide for model family 3828ER3020X is one model-family-specific example, not a universal current code list. If the manual directs service, or the code persists, stop troubleshooting and contact LG or a qualified technician.
