First check the model number printed on your staple gun: Stanley and Bostitch tools do not all use the same loading mechanism or staples. For the documented Stanley TR35 slide-loading design, hold the tool upside down, open the slide, load one stick of staples with the legs pointing up, then close the slide until its latch engages. Wear safety glasses. Use these steps only if your tool matches the TR35 design; check the model’s manual if it does not.
Load staples in a Stanley TR35
These instructions are for the TR35 slide-loading mechanism, not a universal procedure for Stanley or Bostitch staple guns. The TR35 manual says to wear safety glasses when loading, operating, or unloading the tool. Stanley Support lists manuals by model.
- Turn the tool upside down.
- Open the slide. Squeeze its latch and pull the slide outward.
- Insert one stick of staples. Place it in the channel with the staple legs pointing up.
- Close the slide. Push it in until the latch engages.
Check the model before using these steps
The title does not identify a specific gun, and Stanley lists multiple staple-gun models. Find the model number printed on your tool and match it to its manual before loading. If the slide will not open or the magazine looks different from the TR35, stop rather than forcing it or assuming the loading direction is the same. Stanley lists a TR150 manual on its support site, but the page’s retrieved text does not show its loading instructions, so the TR35 steps are not verified for the TR150. Check Stanley Support for the manual associated with your model. Stanley’s staple-gun listings also show why the model matters.
Choose staples by model and type
Do not rely on “heavy duty” wording alone. Match the staple type and size to the exact model and its manual. For example, STANLEY lists the TRA700BN35 assortment as compatible with the TR150 and several other named models. The manufacturer describes it as a 3,500-piece assortment containing:

- Sold as 1 Box.
- Developed for optimum performance in most heavy-duty staplers. Superior-quality high-carbon steel for reduced buckling and jamming.
- Extra-sharp chiseled points for maximum sheet capacity.
- Heavy-duty paper staples. Made from carbon steel for durability.
- 1000 staples per package.
- TRA704 staples: 1/4 inch
- TRA705 staples: 5/16 inch
- TRA706 staples: 3/8 inch
- TRA708 staples: 1/2 inch
- TRA709 staples: 9/16 inch
- SWKBN625 brads: 5/8 inch
That compatibility applies to the models STANLEY names, not every Stanley or Bostitch gun. See STANLEY’s TRA700BN35 compatibility and contents. A separate TRA706T Type G listing names TR100 and TR200 series and other tools, but its compatibility details do not name the TR150; do not use that listing alone to establish TR150 compatibility. Check the TRA706T listing.

Along with eye protection, the TR35 manual advises knowing the material you are stapling and watching for hazards such as electrical wires. Fasteners or debris can cause eye injury. Its described procedure for opening the channel and removing a jammed staple is specific to that tool; consult your own model’s manual before clearing a jam or unloading a different gun.
