The right snowball maker depends on whether you value speed, easier handling, or a maker’s stated cold-weather durability. This shortlist compares five distinct designs using published product details and a buying guide’s review synthesis—not independent side-by-side testing. Check stock before ordering: some product pages reviewed on October 4, 2026, showed their snowball makers sold out.
How to choose a snowball maker
Decide how many balls you want per press
A single-ball mold keeps each press simple. Double- and triple-ball designs can shape more snow at once, but mybest’s 2026 buying guide cautions that operating more molds may require more pressure. That is general guidance from the roundup, not a measured comparison of the products below. If a child will use the tool, consider whether they can comfortably close it while pressing snow into the molds.
Check the grip, handle, and joint
A longer handle can reduce bending, while also potentially taking more force to operate, according to the same mybest guide. Look for a grip that feels manageable and inspect how the two sides of the mold connect: that joint takes repeated opening and closing.
Keep durability claims specific to the model
Plastic finish, resistance to sticking, and wear in freezing conditions vary by product. Treat these as model-specific details rather than assuming all snowball makers perform alike. For example, Prosperplast rates its Snowballee models for use down to -28°C and describes their plastic as frost-resistant; the company also lists a three-year warranty. Those claims apply to the Snowballee 1 and 2, not to the other makers here.

Paricon: a familiar single-ball option
mybest places Paricon first in its seven-product roundup. It describes roughly three-inch snowballs and a Teflon-like coating, while its review synthesis mentions easy use and yield as well as some reports of damage from drops. Those impressions are attributed to the roundup; they should not be read as a guarantee of durability or as results from a hands-on test by this article.
Rank #2
- Makes perfect round snowballs
- Durable action tong handles
- Lightweight and easy to use
- Heavy duty plastic construction
- Coated with icevex cold resistant treatment
Emsco: long handle and clear age listing
Emsco’s product page lists the red SKU 2934 for ages four and up. Its listed dimensions and weight may help when comparing it with a child’s reach or storage space. The product description says it has a long handle and forming cup, but provides no independent performance assessment.
Prosperplast Snowballee: choose single or double molds
The manufacturer offers two sizes of mold count: the Snowballee 1 forms one ball and the Snowballee 2 forms two. Both pages give dimensions, a -28°C manufacturer temperature rating, frost-resistant plastic, and a three-year warranty. The double mold is the higher-output design; whether it takes more effort in practice is not quantified by the manufacturer.

Wishbone’s product page specifies packed snow and a three-ball design. A launcher adds a different function from shaping: it propels a snowball rather than merely forming it. Wham-O’s Arctic Force Snowball Maker appears in the company’s snowball-maker collection, but the listing was marked sold out when checked. The collection displayed a sale price of $9.26 from $9.99 at that time; this is a dated display, not a current price or evidence that the product can be purchased now.

Quick Recap
Use snowball makers safely
- Follow the age range and supervision guidance printed for the specific model. Emsco lists ages four and up; Wishbone recommends five and up and adult supervision.
- Use snow only where the product instructions require it. Wishbone explicitly says its maker is for snow only and specifies packed snow.
- Keep snowballs away from faces and animals, as Wishbone’s safety directions state.
- Check the mold and handle joint for cracks or loosening before play, especially after a drop or repeated use.
What to check before buying
- Choose output: Decide whether one, two, or three balls per press suits your group; more molds may need more pressing force, according to mybest’s buying guidance.
- Match the handle to the user: Compare the product’s dimensions and handle design with the user’s reach and grip. A longer handle may reduce bending but can take more effort to operate.
- Read the exact product claims: Check finish, temperature rating, and warranty on the maker’s own page. The -28°C rating and three-year warranty cited here belong to the two Snowballee models.
- Confirm stock and price in your market: Wishbone and Wham-O listings showed sold out at the time checked, and seasonal listings can change. Do not rely on an old sale display as a current price.
