On Samsung washers, SC is part of the 5C/5E/SE no-drain error family. Start by checking the washer’s manual, then inspect the user-accessible drain filter and hose for blockage, kinks or incorrect installation. If the code remains after those checks, the washer may need service; the code alone does not prove a pump has failed.
What the SC error means
Samsung groups SC with 5C, 5E and SE codes associated with water that is not draining or is draining too slowly. Samsung’s US support page also lists SC among its no-drain codes. The exact display and instructions can differ by model and market, so confirm the code and access points in your washer’s manual before opening a panel. Samsung US lists the code family; Samsung Korea groups SC with related drainage codes.
Fix the drainage problem safely
1. Find the model-specific instructions
Check the manual for your exact washer before troubleshooting. Not every model has the same front access door, emergency drain tube or user-accessible pump filter. Samsung’s support guidance recommends checking the manual for the applicable code meaning and steps. See Samsung’s error-code guidance.
2. Prepare for water before opening the filter area
Residual water may spill when you open the drain route. Put a towel on the floor and have a suitable shallow dish or container ready. If your washer has an emergency drain tube, place its end over the container, remove the cap and let the water drain before removing the pump filter. 3. Clean the accessible drain pump filter
Only do this if the manual identifies the filter as user-accessible. Remove it as directed, clear lint and trapped objects, wash it in warm water, and wipe the filter recess with a damp cloth. Refit and lock the filter securely. Keep the towel and container in place until the area is closed; water can remain in the washer even after emergency draining. Samsung UK’s filter-cleaning steps.
4. Check the drain hose
Look along the accessible hose for a kink, visible obstruction or connection that does not match the manual’s installation instructions. If the hose must be detached to clear a blockage, Samsung UK advises switching the washer off and unplugging it first. 5. Verify installation using your model’s measurements
Drain-hose height requirements are not universal. Samsung Saudi Arabia’s cited guide specifies that the hose should be at least 60 cm above the floor for the guidance it covers, and says it should not be bent or kinked. 6. Run a check cycle
After cleaning and refitting the filter and correcting any hose issue, run the washer again; Samsung Korea suggests a rinse-and-spin course as a way to check whether drainage is normal. Watch whether water exits and whether SC returns. If the code reappears, stop troubleshooting and arrange support or repair. Samsung Korea’s drainage guidance.

When to call for service
If the filter is clear and the hose is unobstructed and installed according to the manual but the code persists, the washer may need inspection of the drain pump or another internal component. Samsung Korea says pump inspection may be needed; Samsung Gulf also identifies pump malfunction or an electrical issue as possibilities and advises contacting support if the 5C code remains after checks. These are possible causes, not a diagnosis established by SC alone. Samsung Korea and Samsung Gulf.
When you contact Samsung or a qualified repair service, have the washer’s model number, the exact code shown, and a description of the filter and hose checks available. Do not order a replacement pump based only on the code; compatibility and the actual fault depend on the model and diagnosis.

Why instructions differ between Samsung washers
Samsung’s regional pages cover different code labels and procedures: the US page lists SC in the no-drain family, the UK page explains a filter and emergency drain tube for applicable models, and the Saudi guide gives a hose-height measurement for its covered guidance. Samsung Korea explicitly groups SC with 5C/5E/SE. Follow the manual for your precise model and market rather than combining steps or measurements from another washer.
