“Egg molds” can mean many things; the products covered here are specifically egg-poaching molds and poachers. The available evidence does not identify four products tested for the titled article, so it would be misleading to present a four-item tested ranking. One independently tested pick and two distinct silicone designs can still help you choose the right setup: Good Housekeeping named OXO Good Grips Silicone Egg Poachers (Set of 2) its Best Overall after testing six poachers in 2024, while Norpro catalogs a four-egg silicone poacher for skillet or microwave use.
What the available testing actually establishes
Good Housekeeping’s Sarah Gregory reported on November 12, 2024, that its kitchen experts tested six egg poachers and selected the OXO Good Grips Silicone Egg Poachers (Set of 2) as Best Overall. That is Good Housekeeping’s result, not a test or ranking of four products for this article. Its observations were that the OXO’s wide opening makes adding an egg easier, wispy whites can be skimmed, and the cup can be moved after the egg sets. It collapses for storage. How to choose a silicone egg poacher
- Choose individual cups for flexibility. Separate cups let you poach fewer eggs at a time; check their dimensions against your pan, since OXO’s tested cups may require a larger one.
- Choose an insert when capacity matters. Norpro’s item 9900 is cataloged for four eggs, but its catalog specifications do not establish how its results compare with individual cups.
- Consider cleanup and storage. OXO lists its cups as dishwasher-safe and collapsible. The cited Norpro catalog entry does not state care or storage instructions.
- Follow the specific product’s directions. Cooking method, water circulation, pan setup and timing vary by design; there is no universal timing established for every egg poacher.
How to poach an egg with the OXO cups
- Bring water to a simmer, not a rolling boil, following OXO’s guidance in its poaching guide.
- Set the silicone cup in the water and add the egg through its funnel-shaped top. OXO author Audrey Brashich explains the design this way: “The top is a funnel, which gently propels the heavier yolk into the water first and then allows the white to gather around it.” This is the manufacturer’s explanation of its design, not an independent finding. - Use OXO’s suggested runny-yolk timings as a starting point, not a guarantee. The official listing gives medium eggs 3:00–3:30, large 3:15–3:45, XL 3:30–4:00 and jumbo 4:00–4:30. These are OXO recommendations, not independent test measurements; the result can depend on your setup and preferred doneness. OXO product listing.
- Use the removal tab to lift the cup when the egg has set, then release the egg onto your plate. Good Housekeeping reports that the cup can be repositioned after setting and that wispy whites can be skimmed; those observations apply to the OXO model it tested.
What remains unknown about a four-product ranking
The available sources do not establish which four products the titled article intended to review, its testing method, or results for four comparable models. They also do not provide independent head-to-head performance data for Norpro or a specified dedicated poaching pan. For a defensible choice, distinguish a product’s own specifications and directions from findings attributed to an independent test.
